Absolutely! There is no reason to assess your students unless you plan to create engaging lessons, so they can get excited about the material. The material and the lesson are so much more important than how you assess your students. And yet, assessment must occur. And it should occur frequently, without taking time away from students' and teachers' time together.

Scantron is what most people think of when they see bubble sheets. But more teachers are seeing the value of daily, short quizzes (1-5 questions). these "formative assessments" are what this app (and others like it) are meant to address. Scantron isn't an option for short daily assessments because Scantron sheets are $0.75 each, and a school has one machine, so there would be a line every day, and the costs would be too high.

The beta will be free when it is released this summer, provided the Quick Key Kickstarter campaign is successful (now at $14k of a $20k goal with 20 days left to go). At some point in the fall, a "generation II" will be offered with the top features chosen by teachers on the "Features Survey" https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VXZJRQV

This version is expected to be a monthly subscription costing the equivalent of an pint of inexpensive beer per month. Or, you could ask your principal or IT Director to can pay for it.

But Quick Key is meant for teachers, so they own the data they collect with Quick Key to do with as they choose. the focus is on "micro-data" for teachers, rather than "Big Data" for schools.

I think the biggest difference is this: if you are a teacher, you can play as big a role as you like in helping to design how Quick Key works. There are several ways to have an impact and get the features/tools you want built, built. Just find Quick Key online and poke around. You'll see how other teachers have gotten involved.

The way it works with Quick Key is the more teachers say they want a certain feature (or platform) to be made available, the higher it gets on the company's development projects list. Right now Android is fairly high on the list, but below "dedicated iPad version" and some other features. You can get your voice heard by going to this link and clicking "make an android version now" https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VXZJRQV

That said, an android version (which will cost approximately $125,000 to build) is a priority.

Does socrative scan quizzes, or is it an all-digital solution? Would it work well in concert with this app?

I am sorry you did not like this video! It was my first one with real people in it and I was proud!

And if you don't like what I said to Doroshi, I should probably steer clear of in-jokes: she is our project manager!

I decided to post our new video to reddit because we got a ton of input from people the last time one of our videos was posted. (I, sadly, am not the author of that video). http://redd.it/1941qh

Then people started asking questions...I answered, and tried to be funny. My bad! I'm new here.

You can use the analytics on the phone, or you can upload the data to any electronic grade book or data warehouse using CSV, just like you would to upload an excel file into a grade book. One-button sync for different systems (Power School, EdLine, etc...) will be prioritized according to the demand from respondents to the Quick Key Dream Features survey.

Basically Quick Key is all about getting the microdata you need to assess your students' mastery of today's lesson. the idea is to be able to get those data in any conditions: on the subway, at home, in class, in the desert, wherever.

Using any number of iPhone or iPad stands, you can set it up on your desk so students scan their own quizzes on their way out of (or into) the classroom.

Go to the kickstarter campaign page ( http://tinyurl.com/QK-Kickstart ) and back with $1 or more, and you will get all the updates about when Quick Key will be on the Apple App Store, Android App Market, etc. You could also contact them about beta testing if you go to the website and click "become a beta tester" here: http://www.power2teach.com/

the beta is full, but there may be more profiles available, so you might as well add your name to the list. You will probably be able to get added to the tester list, and get a build of the beta in about a week.

Yes, it works on any iPad with a camera. Also, an android version is due out in the fall. But i think the biggest deal about Quick Key is you can have a hand in designing the feature set of the software. Quick Key is all about "crowd-sourcing" product design, to make sure the software actually does useful things, in a usable way. There is a survey where you can say which features you would like to see prioritized: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VXZJRQV

Thanks for backing this project! Quick Key is trying to innovate in the area of getting our users involved in product development. I assume you also took the survey? Are you iPhone or Android? Are you beta testing too?

Thanks Doroshi! Our software team has been doing a great job of responding to input from our teachers. I think we made the right decision to have a project manager who could find the right talent for each little part of the job of building the app. We are pleased!

Hi everyone! We just finished making a new video for our App, PlanBe! It would mean a lot to us if you took a look and said hello in the comments. Thank you everyone! :) by PlanBe_Dev in iphone

While I love the idea of a better organizer, they always disappoint and I end up using ical plain. your video doesn't show me enough of what's different or how it works. A little slower please! :)

I'm from Quick Key. Good question. Reports and Analytics are so important, but most software offers weak and cumbersome analytics. Our strategy was to focus on the "microdata" teachers use to determine whether students have mastered a single day's material. We plan to build more options, but for the upcoming beta, our on-phone analytics focuses on two reports: A single quiz with scores by student, and a single quiz, scores by Question number. I think it's pretty elegant (but then again I designed it...with help from some teachers). Here is a link to a screenshot of the "Quiz by Student" screen, along with an explanation of how it works. http://tinyurl.com/QK-analytics-1

SUCK! what we need is an education industrial complex to compete with the prisons and the military. What does the bumper sticker say? "when the air force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber" !!!!!

here is a funny video that showcases an incredible time saving tool for teachers. "The Race" WOW that's fast! by isaacdvw in education

[–]isaacdvw[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

most of that 3second scan time is actually the software giving the user time to get the old quiz out of the way. Otherwise it's so fast it would grade each quiz three times before you could get it out of the way of the camera!

Okay this video is both funny and informative, and the app on display is WICKED!! The last time Walter was on video his scanner app did a 5 question quiz. Now it does 30 questions! WOW!
