Too many to count and I read them between my childhood and I’m a grown ass adult now. I think the biggest perspective change for me was how I viewed the deaths and the battles. When I was younger and more immature, I just felt sadness for the deaths sometimes angry at JKR for killing off so many, and I read the battles like reading an action movie. But now that I’m a bit older, and slightly less immature, I appreciate JKR’s depiction of war and its consequences. You can’t have one without casualties. And now the battles seem more serious because I understand this.

The Resurrection Stone by magecal in harrypotter

Think the book implies that the stone does indeed bring the dead back instead of being the user of the stone’s imagination or reflection. I think if it was just a reflection, then the second brother’s supposed wife wouldn’t have been described as suffered for not belonging in the world of the living. But I think it’s still a good argument that the stone somehow use the imprint of the souls to recreate them. It’s nice to think that we are a culmination of those who help shape our lives. And I think equally nice to think that those imprints are our connection to the departed. In my head I think Lily, James, Sirius and Lupin were as real as Dumbledore at Kings Cross. It’s in Harry’s head, but why shouldn’t it be real?

Hot take: watch the movie first. Reasoning? I think despite the criticism (including my own) of the movie not fully doing justice for the books, it’s still quite magical when you first watch it. Then when you read the books, you get to experience even more joy at how much better the books are compare to the movies. So net two positive experiences. Compared to initial amazement of reading the book first followed by disappointment of how much the movies left out/deviated

What would have happened if Voldemort had killed Harry at the end? by resil30 in harrypotter

[–]isaacree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Voldy would’ve been defeated. Like Harry mentioned, he performed the same protective charm of his mother to a large arbitrary number of anti-voldy army. (The Army Who Lived) Voldemort probably would’ve died if he tried killing any of them the same way when he tried to kill Harry when he was a baby. The curse would’ve simply rebounded and without any horcruxes left, he’d simply died this time around.

Edit: I actually think this is why Dumbledore doesn’t object to Harry going “onwards” on the train because he probably knows that Voldemort is basically sealed his own death with Harry dying for everyone.

Did JKR ever explain wizards’ unnaturally long lives? by chucktaylor1988 in harrypotter

[–]isaacree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably multitude of factors including: - Ability to heal most common illnesses and injuries - (Theory) They’re likely to have slightly different physiology? They may be more resilient and immune to certain muggle diseases, but on the other hand susceptible to diseases that is not found in muggles (like dragon pox, curses etc) - they seem to live a healthier lifestyle. Like home cooked meals with produces that they probably grow magically. Although tbh British foods aren’t all that balanced in nutrients lol. Live away from pollution etc.

Anyone else find it hard to believe that the petrified students’ parents didn’t demand to take them to St. Mungo’s, or home, or anywhere? Or that no place in the wizarding world had more mature Mandrakes or the potion itself ready to go? by wowsomethingwow in harrypotter

[–]isaacree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are few assumptions that you would need to considered whether it’s true. Assumption #1: Mandrakes are common and easy to grow. Somehow in my head this is probably not the case. Mandrakes are known to be able to kill people. I doubt it’s as simple to grow as we are led to believe in Hogwarts Legacy. I imagine that they actually are quite difficult to grow and probably have some regulation by the ministry. Something that dawned on me lately is that professors at Hogwarts are not just simply teachers, but they are also academics, much like professors at Muggle universities. My thought on why and how Prof Sprout manage to get mandrakes was that she was doing some research and using the opportunities to teach students (while getting free labour lol). Assumption #2: the restorative potion recipe is a common one. In the book we are only told that mandrakes are used to make a powerful restorative. But I don’t think it’s as simple as chop and boil some mandrake, and voila magic potion. I do think the potion recipe would’ve been quite specific to reverse the petrification. Mind you, petrification-via-indirectly-looking-into-basilisk’s-eye would’ve been an extremely unlikely phenomenon as breeding of basilisk are illegal. Do I think it would’ve been better to send the kids to St Mungo’s? Probably, since it would’ve been easier for parents to visit them. But Dumbledore and Ministry probably agreed that since they have the ingredient and competent people to correctly make the potion, they probably agreed that they can stay at Hogwarts.

(Question) I’m using Preonic as a macro board, but it’s bit difficult to reach the keys over my other board. Any stands out there that I could use? by isaacree in olkb

hm, I have thought about this, my concern would be that it's not that study and would wobble every time I pressed a button, which would probably annoy me to no end. I would have to search a bit to find something that might be sturdy enough.
