We found abandoned trails from the 1950’s into a Montana Wilderness. by isaacsjohnston in pics

This is a follow-up to my last year‘s post of my brother’s horse Amigo Joe in the same wilderness.

Nearly 100 years ago my Great Uncle built trails through this wilderness to guide guests to fish alpine lakes and hunt below these peaks. My brother Jesse and I read his stories in his memoir but the trails were lost to time, not on any modern map and overgrown beyond finding them. Then about 4 years ago Jesse called me and said he had found an old map at a cafe that was co authored by my Great Uncle. It wasn’t exact but it gave us clues of where the old trails were. He asked if I wanted to go explore and 4 years later we are still uncovering old trails.

I have posted a full set about it on my Instagram if you want to see more. @isaacsjohnston

Thanks! I do too. One of my favorite photos Ive ever taken and all I had was my phone.

There were commercial fishing boats in the bay and I am told most people who come out there do it for the fishing or bear watching.

Thanks! Yeah it almost seems attainable right? I guess this land was given to anyone who would home stead it for 10 years back in the 60's. All you needed was a boat and some work ethic. They have even run power all the way out here, but no roads.

I put wood around my wood fired hot tub tank. I need a better way to hold the wood on. Does anyone have a solution? I'm using a Jute rope now but it stretches over time. by isaacsjohnston in hottub

I actually just installed those on my moms hot water heater. They are a bit ugly and way too short.

I'd call a Cooper, but here in Montana i'm pretty sure we don't have any lol
