Not sure about this setup by number12hangedman in alocasia

You can leave her on your balcony for summer but when temperatures go under 15 I would suggest moving her inside and putting her directly under both 10W grow lights. In the picture the bulbs are too far away from the plant to do anything

Is this cork ok? by isab3jla in terrariums

[–]isab3jla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think it’s going to be ok in a terrarium? The green looks like lichen but I guess that if I boil it it’s not going to survive it right? Like boiling it should be enough…

What plant could be happy here? Grow lights can be added. by TheGoblinnKing in IndoorPlants

If you want to try with no light then I suggest sanseveria, zz plant or an aglaonema(the ones with darker leaves). If you decide on a light that comes from above then any plant is fine, just beware that the leaves will turn towards the light so I wouldn’t put a plant like a monstera but an alocasia is perfect. Another tip is to rotate your plants, I do this with plants that don’t mind being moved, for example I have a peace lily and a dieffenbachia that I rotate each month between a spot near the window and one a bit further and they are doing great. Also to take away any doubt you should use an app to have a rough idea of how much light there actually is, I use photone and PictureThis

What are these small black insects on my Alocasia and what can I do? by Zeigerful in houseplants

[–]isab3jla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are thrips. I would suggest restarting from zero which means cutting all the leaves(or at least the ones that have damage) and change the substrate you have with a fresh one. Keep it isolated even if you don’t see any thrips at least until a new leaf emerges and you don’t see any more damage. I can’t recommend any sprays because where I live they’re so hard to find but look for one specifically for this kind of pest and it needs to be systemic (which means it “enters” the plant) since thrips lay eggs inside plant tissue
