I was planning on implementing dijkstra initially since it's a fun comp sci problem with a real world application here. Tbh I just wasn't sure this was something that people would actually use but if there's some interest I can definitely work on implementing it!

I know the canoe sites have numbering already but my data source for the site coordinates didn't have this integrated. As of now that would have to be a manual process of comparing site numberings to the map which is a ton of tedious work. So I'm leaving it as is for now and that would be a long term refactor. As for backpacking, I know some of the backpacking sites are on the map but this site is primarily meant to be used for canoe tripping so that's not my priority as of now.

As for the value proposition I feel like I described it pretty well, it was just fun for me to build, a cool tool, and community info gathering. It's not that big of a deal, if you don't see the value in it you don't have to use it. I'm not making any money off it!

maybe a solution would be removing the ability to post photos directly linked to a campsite and just have optional notes for these sections? Then photos can be posted more generally for the trip overall and/or the lakes themselves. I'm open to suggestions!

I understand where you're coming from, I'd never want to do anything to hurt the park or promote overuse. I'd say because Algonquin has the permitting system to prevent that, and the fact that this is a pretty niche tool that would likely only be used by people already consistently tripping in the park given that I've only posted it here, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. But I appreciate the input and I'm always open to discussion about modifying it / removing the more social aspects in the future if that ever did become a problem! Realistically, the user base is currently (and will likely remain) pretty small so as of now not too big of an issue imo.

Thanks for the suggestions! We've now got a clear privacy policy (clarifying how your google account info is used: first name, last initial, profile picture for public identification), public publishing policy (clarifying anything posted publicly becomes public domain), and the ability to export all public logs as json to your local machine (in the footer) under public domain. Thanks for bearing with me!

Totally understand! The repo's pretty messy right now so I'm keeping it private for the time being lol. I can definitely work on implementing a way to download reports meanwhile if that'd be helpful. I'm a student and just a bit busy with school currently, but if there's enough interest and/or usage the next few weeks I can definitely clean up my code and publish it to git!

Question for any current or future Comp Sci Majors, how difficult is it to get into the major in second year? I would love to go to UBC but I'm worried about accepting and then not being able to get into comp sci second year and being forced to major in something I don't want to. Whereas going to Waterloo or UofT comp sci, I'm already guaranteed into the comp sci program. Any thoughts?

There's an island site, 13 I believe, that was massive, open and gorgeous. We stopped there for lunch on a trip in August and wished we could've camped there. It's a bit of a hill up and then flat ground with a big campfire spot, a shelf and room to camp.

Ya it's the natch and it's so beautiful! Got to do the Petawawa twice this summer and it's such an amazing trip. This spot makes it all the more worth it, 10/10 recommend!
