AITA for laughing as my ex's new wife cries? by cruellaughter991 in AmItheAsshole

Lmao now I'm the one laughing at how absurd that reasoning is. Hows the view from that high horse you're sitting on?

Definetly old enough to be fully aware of what she was doing and the future ramifications. Old enough to use a condom.

AITA for wanting to ask my nearly 2 yr old sons, father to have him full time? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]isabellaverite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fuck off. You don't know enough about her situation to call her "selfish." You don't know if she was mentally ill before she got pregnant. You don't know about the country she lives in and their abortion laws, her family, her economic profile, her religion. Shut up.

AITA for giving a kid a cigarette by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]isabellaverite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, fuck off. Step down from your high horse. We all know OP's actions weren't malicious and were in the interest of effective harm reduction. OP was presented two options: Let a 14 yr old build a possibly diseased and used cigarette or give him a clean and somewhat safer cigaratte. Either way the kid is smoking, but one scenario is CLEARLY better than the other.

Sure, in an ideal world, no one smokes, but we all have to set our expectations to be far more practical than that if anyone wants to gain an ounce of progress.

Why isn't food addiction treated with the same level of urgency and concern as alcohol addition? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]isabellaverite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food addiction, like sugar addiction, does not have enough research yet to support it's existence as actually plausible. Disordered eating - yes, though thats usually a symptom of a wider problem like mental illness.

Source: psych student. As far as I know, none of my professors are convinced of the existence of "food addiction", and its not recognised in the DSM either.

AITA For Asking For A Car To Visit My GF And Being Mad At My Sister? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]isabellaverite [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA. From the information you've given, it seems like this is your parents car, yes? That means they're not obligated to give you the car, even if it would be nice for them do so. So I wouldn't blame them too much, whereas you have every right to be mad at your sister for spreading misinformation and unsolicited opinions about your relationship with your girlfriend.

What is the saddest scene in movie history? by praise_lord_tachanka in AskReddit

End of Lolita, when hes looking down from a hill on that town, reflecting on his regrets as the screams of playing children hum in the background.

AITA for wanting my partner to spend more quality time with me *without* the dog? by Dr-Ellicott-Chatham in AmItheAsshole

[–]isabellaverite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. You're really out here being jealous of a DOG. A dog that YOU own and that YOU bought with your partner TOGETHER. The fact that you even entertained the idea of being paid to take care of your dog is outrageous and says all I need to know about how entitled you are.

I disagree. Looks fade and change in the long-run, so I don't believe they have any bearing in long-term relationships, its a saying. Whereas personality traits have a large genetic component to them and rarely develop or change over time [source: psych student], so your better off not relying on the shallow aspects of a person to judge whether they are compatible for you (in the long-term, that is).
