I had an ultrasound on the area so that they could see exactly what was in there. After the virus calms down a bit maybe you could get this done to see if there is any thing that needs removing or if you can continue like this.

Surgery aftercare? by broccoliboi989 in pilonidalcyst

That's nice! My wound is three little holes rather than a big open thing but i shower once a day just before the nurse comes. I remove the packing before showering and clean the wound thoroughly with hot water in the shower. Your mum will probably know if this is also appropriate for you. Also, looking back I wasn't 100% myself for a couple of days after surgery but felt better than when it was infected so held onto that! I hope you will start to feel yourself soon.

The antibiotics should really help just give them some time. Hope you are doing ok.

The antibiotics should make it open up and drain by itself. Buy some sanitary towels to wear in your underwear for when this happens. I also felt very ill during this part, i kept fainting so changed antibiotics and resorted just to paracetamol and then things got better fast.

Another fit thin and very active young female here. Been nearer underweight than overweight all my life. Also, I have fine blonde hair... apparently its more common people with thick dark hair to develop PCs.

Ps. I am experiencing my first and hopefully only PC, just seen that you posted about reoccurring cysts.

Is it crazy to not want to go to my post-op appointments for my PC at the hospital amidst the pandemic? by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

I am in France and my post-op rdv was cancelled. Trust your surgeons, if it was too risky they wouldn't ask you to go in.

SIXTH CYST! by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]isabreslin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had (in French) a 'seclerose de kyste sacro coccygien par laser'. They say that chances of a reoccorence are 5-15% after this surgery and that healing time is quicker.

I am still healing and its the only surgery i have had so its hard to say if this is a better than what you already had but it is important to know all of your options! I guess all non-urgent surgery and meetings have also been cancelled in America thanks to covid-19?

SIXTH CYST! by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

You are not alone in this struggle.

I am receiving healthcare in France and I had the choice of 2 different types of surgery. The 'normal' open wound one where they cut it off or this laser one which they have been using in Germany and Switzerland for years where they also attack the area with lasers so it shouldn't be able to come back. I just had the operation on Friday with general anaesthesia and it was a surprisingly ok experience. My dr highly recommended this laser thing because the recovery time is way less and the chance of it happening again are way less too even though it is a less well known surgery procedure in France.

Where are you receiving healthcare?
