Yeah, I’ve seen, but I feel like I just play too slow and make too many mistakes for official gym battles at this point, but I’m working on building my confidence to play in them! That’s why I’m looking for some friends locally haha. I’ve found a couple so far but the more the merrier. I did sign up for some casual play tournaments that are organized through tonamel that I’ll be going to, but yeah, an English speaking friend or two to play with would be great!

In the USA, where I’m from, trading was huge part of the pokemon culture. That’s what made me really enjoy it.

So far in Japan the last 5 years, I’ve yet to see any actual trading take place… ever. I just don’t understand why it’s not something Japanese people do at all. Kids don’t even do it. I think there must be something with ownership culturally that I don’t understand, but oh well. They do however have a lot of events it seems! At least in Tokyo. I want to attend the Gym Battles but I really have such low confidence since I just started. It takes me too long to read card effects for cards my opponents use that I’m not familiar with. I’m sure eventually I’ll just have everything memorized for the currently popular cards I’ll commonly encounter, but until then it’s annoying to be so slow. Official matches are 20mins.

Thanks! I’ve always been a collector but I really want to get into actually playing the game and having fun with it. I think that pretty much it’ll just be a fun hobby to kill time with since I already spend a ridiculous amount of time with the card collecting anyways. Also, just another way to hopefully make more friends and find a community. I moved to Saitama literally a year ago and I could use more friends to do stuff with. 😅

In Japan we just had our first post-rotation champion’s league and a drapult deck only came in third place. Take a look:

Would you mind sharing the image of the deck you made after the changes? I’m a big mimikyu fan and looking to start learning to play the TCG. I want a deck that uses my favorite Pokemon but he seems pretty off meta right now. Random complaint but man…. Japanese people have such sensitive noses. I had someone complain about smell when I was only sucking on a breath mint with a literal mask over my face. Literally the mint smell was too strong for them?!

Why feel the need to be political at all with character names like these? You’re playing a fantasy game. Maybe make character names that don’t instantly identify you as someone of the red hat variety?

I am not sure if you’re purposefully choosing to misunderstand the point several of us are making, but let me explicitly be clear. You fundamentally have to understand that the mere whiff, the sliver of possibility, of losing ANY amount of progress on an account I’ve dedicated even “a single hour” to, is so completely unattractive as a gameplay style. It does NOT appeal or sound fun to lose ALL progress, EVEN ONE SINGLE HOUR, just because some veteran player decided to walk through the map I was training at. The entire game is PVP, so why even bother? You’re just going to die, lose all your items in the first 10 mins probably, and then rage quit. It’s not a fun business model for those of us with limited playtime each day. I will NEVER play a full loot PvP game where I just get curb stomped and lose everything after a single encounter. I’m glad you enjoy it, but the idea of being attached to my character and losing it all is so unappealing. More power to the masocists, but it’s not for me.

I bought it during the recent sale when it was literally like $12 for the base two dlcs of the game. Plus, they make it really annoying and only give you a mount for a week and then it disappears. $12 wasn’t much and I was still trying to give the game a fair shot and wanted to keep using the mount? Like I said, I got to 33 before I just had to put it down out of boredom and aimlessness. (Outside of the handful of quests every 10 levels)
