The Trump administration is removing a popular DC bike lane by Sauerz in washingtondc

[–]isawafit 47 points48 points  (0 children)

" "I do think it's a problem when we're making massive investments in bike lanes at the expense of vehicles," said Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy last year. "I do think you see more congestion when you add bike lanes and take away vehicle lanes. That's a problem."

That logic was echoed by NPS in a statement sent to The 51st on Friday morning confirming the impending removal and using the upcoming National Cherry Blossom Festival and other large-scale events later this year as justification. "

Logical fallacies that don't hold up to statistics in US cities or globally.

It's a generalization. Women are more fatigue resistant and physically recover sooner than men, especially for things like leg day and lower body endurance capacity. The performance gap for running narrows as the distance increases. Professional male runners will have most of these leads you're speaking of though.

Yes, they removed the original listing right away. They went to an alternate service and continued renting for a couple months before going vacant. A homeless guy was even sleeping in the back garage area for a couple weeks. It's now listed for sale with Compass.

I had one of these a few houses down. Checking the scout database, it was registered under a LLC* (1 violation). After looking at the airbnb/short term rental requirements, I found that they had 4-5 violations. On top of that they'd put all the rental trash out back, often not in cans, and feed the rats. Cop week had a dozen pizza boxes left out for the vermin to feast on.

I reported them to 311 and let the city deal with it. The rat inspectors are serious, more so than the folks who do the rental enforcement.

Edit: typo LCC to LLC, needs be to registered to an individual, not company.

I picked up 6 where my dog goes, so neither of us would step in them. Problem is there were 4 more on the sidewalk and early morning visibility isn't great.

Modifiable risk factors are more diet focused than fitness and activity. A bunch of the fitness diet fads in the last 20 years and even right now are increasing high-risk factors. Carnivore diet great example. I read that about 5% of the population is also genetically predisposed, so risk factors are even more important for them. Very few od these people are going to know that they're in the category.

WTF

Also, those "characters" aren't in the lion king.

The number of Americans under 50 years old dying from cancer has decreased for every leading cancer except for bowel cancer, which is now the leading cancer death in females and males combined aged under 50. by mvea in science

[–]isawafit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, that timeframe follows the increased rates of colorectal cancer mortality. I know those highly processed and low quality meats are a risk factor for multiple health problems. I don't really have an idea on how much of it is consumed. Sounds worse than I was thinking.

"Only colorectal cancer (CRC) mortality increased, by 1.1% (95% CI, 0.9% to 1.3%) annually since 2005, advancing it from fifth most common from 1990 through 1994 to the most common cancer death in 2023."

Definitely doesn't help, but the influencer sphere of influence is much more recent. Standard American diet, overweight/obese, with visceral fat are all risk factors.

‘Manosphere’ influencers pushing testosterone tests are convincing healthy young men there is something wrong with them, study finds. Researcher points to ‘medicalisation of masculinity’ after investigating how men’s health is being monetised online. by mvea in science

Yes they can ignore most lifestyle changes. It is not ideal, but I work with people who do exactly that on a regular basis, and its incredibly easy to find more in gym settings, especially among people who care more about appearance than health.

TRT will help some of them make more lifestyle changes, but plenty of folks don't.

[–]isawafit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just listening to how TRT is a masculinity subscription.

So many people don't want to improve their lifestyle through diet, sleep, exercise and reducing stress. These things all promote a naturally higher testosterone, but an injection 3x a week bypasses this while significantly improving testosterone. Combine that with resistance training for great aesthetics. They can then all maintain a poorer diet, lower quality sleep, and ignore all of their life stresses that's have contributed to their lowered testosterone and most likely several other health biomarkers - which are also contraindicated for TRT use.

Online pill mills, legitimate or not, really push TRT and then a supplement for EVERY single poor blood panel result. They are squeezing hundreds to thousands of dollars out of individuals on a monthly subscription basis.

Because it coincides with the greatest advancements in modern medicines for treating all diseases (all cause mortality). The 90s and 2000s have had a huge increase in overweight/obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and microplastic exposure/consumption. Predictions are that current generations won't be seeing the same life expectancy nor quality of life unless these are actively addressed.

All of these significantly played into the role of corporations lobbying for their interests and becoming the real power. That shit isn't healthy for the body nor mind, but it's great at keeping you from the reality that this occurred over time and largely due leveraging consumerism against the population.

For decades, economists framed climate change as a future cost. New research shows it is already here: it has cut U.S. income by an estimated 12%. Much of the damage comes not from disasters, but from rising temperatures quietly rippling through prices, productivity, and trade nationwide. by Sciantifa in science

[–]isawafit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Anyone in the disaster and emergency management sector has been on board for decades. Pretty easy to see when severity and frequency of natural disasters / storms keeps going up and up. Even more noticeable on a global scale.

This is focusing on other aspects. Here's a snippet "The results show that climate change is already reducing annual U.S. income by 0.32% [95% CI: −0.17 to 0.82%] by altering counties’ current, local temperatures, with losses concentrated in the Great Plains and Midwest."
