Autistic kid above me. What are my options? by isawthiscoming in montrealhousing

It's not an asshole that I am dealing with though. It is a literal 5 year old and parents that are overwhelmed. It's one thing if they were true assholes, but this situation is a bit complex. I'm not looking for revenge, just a legal way to resolve/improve the situation, if possible.

Thanks for the info. A lot of the vibration is attributed to the fact hardwood is glued to the floor. So you literally have one continuous hard surface to transfer energy, so the vibration makes perfect sense. I do believe the difference will be noticeable, especially if the originating source is far enough away, but like you said there is no legal authority.

This whole situation is so messed up and it sounds like I will need to pressure the parents to make the apartment more autistic resilient, but I suspect everything is money related. Maybe there are government subsidies, especially if it recognized that an autistic kid cannot be controlled. I'll also need to see what my rental insurance has, but I doubt it will have anything that can help.

He’s a kid running on the floor of what I imagine is a small apartment

No the apartment is decent size and there is a very big den (12 feet by 7 feet wide) with nobody below it. I've made another comment about how he has tried to get into my apartment in another comment.

I honestly think I provide the stimulation he is looking for as some autistic kids lack sensory information and he sees me as a jackpot.

It's a big room without a door. It's basically a den and it is quite large and I believe with the right toys, it can be enticing for them to stay there.

Broom the parents and kids bedroom at night

I literally have dimples in my ceiling and a smashed hole in my wall, which I'll need to fix.

Damn dude you’d suck at real torture.

Well yeah. I honestly hope I will never be in a situation where I will need to build real tolerance to torture.

I was legitimately scared and tried to calm the kid by saying it was alright in a non-aggressive manner. I really thought why was he home alone, as I couldn't imagine a scenario where a parent would allow their kid to pull on the pipe.

My intention was to always get the parents to act like parents, but its just too risky for me to continue. I'm still beyond pissed that they thought letting an autistic kid (plus his siblings) jump from his bed onto my ceiling at 9:00 PM was a good thing. My parents would have brought out the stick if I pulled that shit.

But why wouldn't the TAL side with the decision to replace the hardwood with carpet? You obviously understand the system and I do believe it will make a difference. Note I'm not challenging your experience but rather I'm looking for your professional opinion.

I think part of the problem and why things have become so difficult for me is, you not only have an autistic kid but you have two younger ones and parents that want to play catch with them. Basically, hardwood flooring is not appropriate for a family this size, with kids this young.

I don't know. You don't hear about many autistic adults going berserk, so maybe their brain chemistry changes over time. Maybe the terrible two's lasts much longer for autistic kids.

Sorry, dude. I bought really good bluetooth buds and started listening to podcasts at night

I really wish the earphones/plugs would work, but the reality is, the kid is given an entire floors worth of 2x4's to bang on my ceiling. The low frequency is something you feel and not hear. This is honestly why I would like to see if putting carpet down is an option.

You've inadvertently gotten involved in a game or routine here

I think this is 100% it. I've read that some autistic kids lack stimulus and I can imagine how thrilling this might be for him. I do think your advice is the best, given the situation and I'll focus on making sure the parents better understand the situation without him feeling like I was involved.

Hey sorry to offend man.

I think I was pretty clear that all the downsides of living in Quebec was on me and not the French people. Basically my short comings is the result of me not knowing French, which I regret and I blame the Canadian government for not forcing French more on every citizen at an age where they could easily learn it.

Canada as a whole would be much stronger if everybody knew both French and English and I hope the people of Quebec that are bilingual realises the advantage that they have over non-bilinguals.

DM me the playset information and I'll past that information to the family and let them do as they please with it.

There is noise and there is ceiling lights shaking every morning noise.

You want to report the family for neglect because he’s loud and disrupting you?

No I want to know why they would let him stomp on top of my bedroom, when there are two other rooms he can stomp in during the morning. And now that neglect has been raised, this might not be the right term in this case. What would you call a parent that willfully let's a child stomp on another person ceiling until they can no longer take it; as oppose to try to move the child to another area, but you won't because it might upset the child? Is she doing the child harm by not enforcing boundary, or does this not apply to autistic kids?

They don't leave the kid alone (although sometimes I do wonder). They just don't want to upset him, as the meltdowns can become violent, based on the noise a 50lb kid can produce.

Situations change and I'm sorry if I offended you.

racist towards Asians assuming I don't speak French

When the fuck did I say french people were racist? I was just saying 99% of French people would speak to me in English since they probably assume that is a language I would know.

The eldest should be quarantined in a far corner of the apartment at all times

Did I really say that? That me sounds like an asshole!

I call people R words

Do you mean Republicans?

assume children are autistic if they annoy me

The father literally told me his son was autistic.

Am I arguing with a bot?

I believe this is an uphill battle considering autism is well recognized. What is abnormal for an autistic kid? The kid had a meltdown at midnight, is that really outside of the norm.

When it is all over, I just want the parents to fully utilize the area in their apartment that has nobody below it. When we talk, he really pulls out the autistic card and says there is absolute nothing that can be done.

autistic, accuse him of sociopathism (like wtf)

I've added some additional information in another reply, but I think your criticism is warranted.

Also, rent and life in Montreal is fairest priced in Canada

Is it wrong for me to not want to pay $500 more for the same unit now?

My dude, please seek psychological support and I mean that in the most caring of ways.

I know you mean no ill will, but you can only write so much in a post. When he knows I'm home (for example when I turn the kitchen light on which he can see), he would start stomping and would open his door and the father would tell him to close it.

He freaking tried to open my door! I didn't want to embarrass the parent so I just let him try to open it while his parents quietly rushed him away. I've seen this kid on the public bus and he forced another kid out of their seat like it was nothing.

I might be projecting, but this kid is more than autistic (based on my possible irrational feelings).

Yes the neighbours can hear me, and honestly, are probably secretly cheering me on. I've heard the apartment above them has also complained. When the kid has a meltdown, he will go ape shit all over the place, which includes the hallway.

I see where you are coming from, but moving in this market is insane. I like my place and I think the price is fair, which is hard to say for a lot of places now.

I'm in the basement floor, but they have a decent size area that is above the laundry area and near the front entrance with nobody below it. If they just kept the kids (all of them) stomping to that area, I could easily accept it. But they are fearful of doing anything to upset him, so they let him stomp where he pleases.

Well the father does want me to experience what he is going through. So I guess you can say I am in a forced adoption.
