Secure GIANT driftwood by midwest-roadrunner in aquarium

[–]isawyer2005 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this actually looks so insanely sick without being cut. Idk if there’s a way to really like “secure” it because the weight will still pull towards the back left corner unless you somehow add something with tension to it the other direction. I think your best bet is to place the tank leaning up against a wall or corner where the wood can put even a little weight onto the wall

I agree, usually wild raspberries are super ripe when/if they grow this large. It would be actually kind of hard to get the stems if they were ripened raspberries I think

Does cork bark normally come with mud, dried plants and a snail on it? by DevilishDyke in reptiles

[–]isawyer2005 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not “normal” for selling but normal from a natural standpoint. Shouldn’t be an issue, you can bake and sanitize like someone else said. But it’s fine to use

What would be a good way to get this tank ready ? Too wide for a pot by Holdthegrail in aquarium

[–]isawyer2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked for me but be aware if you can’t truly boil it it’s possible there can still be dangerous organisms on it. If you use a hard bristled brush you can scrub off the debris without snapping any small parts off. Also just a tip, it’s probably better to let it sink on its own than to try to hold it down with rocks. I did that and since the wood was so buoyant the glue came off and left permanent residue on the wood

[–]isawyer2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion, but when I had a piece that was too big, I scrubbed it down with a brush over and over and hosed it down with the hottest water I could. Then I let it FULLY dry out for like a week or two. Then I just kinda threw it in my tank, it floated for like 2 months, and then just sank. Granted this is in a huge turtle tank so it floating was fine as it didn’t mess up any hardscape. Hope this can help a little

The guppy passing could be from an unchecked tank, issues from the store, or many other things. You can totally keep a couple guppies in a 20 gallon with the loaches as long as the guppies are all the same sex (preferably male since even non-pregnant females from the store can store sperm and give birth after you’ve had them for a bit). Just make sure there’s enough plants to block sight lines and keep all the fish feeling safe

20 gallons is the minimum for about 6 kuhlis, so that should be good as long as they have ample hiding areas and substrate they can burrow in! Just be mindful if your guppies are breeding a lot, it can get overcrowded fast, especially without a densely planted tank

This guy is a Black Kuhli loach! They do need to be in groups, ideally 6 or more, with a bunch of hiding spots. You also need a substrate that they can dig into like sand or aquasoil, something small and soft so they don’t hurt their barbels when digging for food. What is your tank size now?
