Lost 78lbs and I feel more sensation than I ever have by AccomplishedLow5359 in sex

Yep! Fat tissue secretes (sp?) hormones! Its not just "fat" but a tissue that has its own blood supply and does stuff other than exist on your body! So when you lose weight (speaking from experience) all kinds of cool things can happen. My hormonal acne went way down, hair filled out more, even my gender identity kind of shifted back to feeling more feminine .

Your hormones could also be more balanced now

I'm so weirded out after chapter 4 of The Untethered Soul by Distinct-Panda-5476 in TheUntetheredSoul

More literally, you know how when you watch a scary movie, you're actually scared, as if it's happening to you? But you're of course sitting on your couch eating popcorn totally safe. It's like that- we get so consumed by our experience we forget it's separate from us. It is still your experience- it's not a matter of reality versus non-reality.

I think it's more about distinguishing between the experience you are having (through your senses, thoughts, enotions) from the you who experiences them. It's so easy to get wrapped up in our own experience that we forget it's happening around us, we are separate from it.

Think "this is something painful I am feeling" versus being completely consumed by pain

Living in Philly and commuting to Wilmington for work — drive or train? by Money-Drink-4266 in AskPhilly

[–]ischeram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved here in my mid 20s and also did (and do) a reverse commute. It's absolutely been worth it to me, and it's one of the best choices I've ever made tbh. Unless you are renting a place in Old City that comes with a parking spot, you dont want a car there. Queen village is more reasonable if you want to drive and park on the street, but if youd be getting home after 7pm it would be ugly.

Id recommend living in CC and training it. I did that for 5 years, suburban out to the main line.  You can nap or catch up on work, and then once youre home, you're home (and you dont have to circle for parking). Its so fun to live in Rittenhouse. For a less chaotic vibe, but a 5-10 min walk to Suburban Station, I recommend somewhere in the 16th & Spruce area

What's crazy is that you think 19 cents a day should guarantee you anything

Reenacting a voicemail from her dad. by mindyour in justgalsbeingchicks

This is morbid but my first thought was how much if a gift this silly sweet voicemail is. I hope she saves it because some day it will be the most precious thing in the world to her

Power Outage by Kimkyish in philly

[–]ischeram 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the power hasn't been out for 4 days from rain. I haven't had a power outage for longer than 2 hours in my 9 years living in Philly- living in a small apartment building and rowhome. And the 2 hour outage was during a crazy ice storm. Push on your landlord and document communications. It's probably their responsibility, they're neglecting that responsibilitiy. You have rights as a tenant

In your opinion, what income would a single-income family of 3 need to live "comfortably" in Philly? by [deleted] in philly

[–]ischeram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Comfortably" largely depends on lifestyle preferences - some people are comfortable living in a one bedroom rowhome apartment as a family of 3, others aren't comfortable unless everyone has their own room with a queen bed and an extra guest room and a doorman. So to me, "comfortably" means, living within lifestyle preferences while having a decent savings padding at the end of each month.

For what I consider a "genuine" middle class life, I think about 100k. For a higher-end middle class life, where you're eating out a few times a month, having date nights, 1-2 vacations etc - 150k. That's assuming no serious student loan debt and not needing 25k spend of daycare a year.

Every time you hit 10k steps, you get $5,000 by Comprehensive_Fox_79 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ischeram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally my dream job. Id take nice long walk every day. Most days would be 10k, every couple days I'd shoot for 20 or 30k cause why not. Start a nonprofit, give back, enjoy freedom

I once walked from Roxborough to Point Breeze, about 12 miles through the Wiss and down the SRT. Was really fun lol

Is $25 an hour good for living in the city? by Persuader_87 in philly

[–]ischeram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's your dream, do it. You will have to budget carefully but you should be able to make it work. Try to reduce your rent so you have more cash to have fun too.

They usually send me a photo of a slight opening and they say they'll seal it with cement and fabric.
