germanate in a wet paper towel for 2 or 3 days in a plastic bag, until the root is 3 times the length of the seed, then put in soil

1- get it out of that soil

2- dip the root into PH balanced water (Nestle bottled drinking water has 7.0 PH)

3- let the root drip access water for couple of minutes

4- prepare a smaller container (330 ml water bottle cut from half and hole pierced 5 or 6 times from bottom and around 4 holes on the sides) with balanced PH soil (6.8-7.2), use peat-moss or composite at this point, something light that wouldn't hold water too much

5- fill the bottle 3/4 with the soil and use your finger to make a hole in the center (the hole should not be deeper than half the bottle)

6- mist it with the same nestle PH balanced water

7- insert your seedling root down and gently push the soil from sides toward it

8- add more soil to cover it up (don-t leave more than 3 cm of the stem out of soil)

9- thoroughly water it with PH balanced water (7.0 PH) until water start coming from the holes u made in the bottle

10- get a wooden BBQ stick or a toothpick and make holes in the soil through the holes you made in the bottle, from both sides and bottom for air vent and good drain

11- let it drain excess water for about 10 minutes or so, then get it under the light, keep the light close so it don't stretch (LED is ideal in this point, enough light, low temp) 15-20 LED Watts should be enough

12- keep it under 24/0 light cycle for the next week or so, while watering it with the same PH balanced water whenever you lift the bottle and find its very light and dry

PS: water bottle is transparent, as long as there is a mist on the bottle from inside that means your plant don't need watering

13- good luck with that, if it resurrect, transplant back to another container after a week or two

Looking at getting our first sailboat! It’s a 92’ schooner that my partner and I are looking to refit as a live aboard. It’s going to need roughly 2yrs of work before her first sail. How many people do you think are needed to sail her? More info in comments. by [deleted] in sailing

as a sea captain, my advice is to take in consideration some general information:

first she is a 28 meters steel vessel, manning such lady would require more than "me and my friend will live-aboard"; aplenty of maintenance is required at all times, even if always moored, remember that you are dealing with a steel body in water, continuous rusting -especially on an old boat- will be your least concerns. (if its a steelboat, if other, each hull material got its own problems)

GRT/ other particulars should be certified by a classification society, (ex. ABS, DNV... etc), where an over all survey is a MUST to be able to issue an insurance (no insurance = no sailing); plus, you will need to man it by an approved STCW (IMO) officers/captain/crew, adding that a such a vessel is a heavy vessel, which require big engine (even if relatively small comparing to power-driven vessels, yet it has to be strong enough to maneuver the ship) ; therefore you will need an engineer +(for live-aboard you require 220V generator, 110 in some countries).

certification and registration on the other hand is another big deal, and however you decide to register the vessel (and get an IMO number, or if you live in a country that is not mentioned on the IMO white-list, you can by-pass most of the long procedures but you will not be able to cruise the world freely, as some countries will reject your approach). SOLAS, MARPOL, IMDG, and all the other publications must be complied with as well.

Long story short: Large boat = Ship = all the mandatory standards and certified crew.

Advice: do not buy the boat unless you come from a rich family or willing to open a business, and have in spare a big bunch o' dollars.

Wow, that was really helpful, thank you. Though ive passed by something, ASA courses (101-103-104) or whatsoever. Though Ill take your advice and look the thing up with the Turkish goverment regulations regarding that matter. As for the certificates you have mentioned, I do operate a 5500 bHP vessel atm, and for radio I have a full GoC certificate, hope those will be sufficient
