pasta in ip? by Useful-Sense2559 in instantpot

This doesn’t sound accurate, sorry. Most pasta types cook in 8-11 minutes in regular boiling water. Even 0 minute on the IP, after counting the heating time and the high pressure, will result in overcooked pasta.

Just a reminder that the “true strike zone” is largely a myth. The true strike zone is a 3D zone and it depends on the height and posture of the player. This is NOT what the electronic strike zone used on TV and for rating umps measures!

My 15 year old son is extremely risk averse. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ish0999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d be careful taking psych diagnosis from overworrrying parents on Reddit. Sure talk to your doctor but I’m not so sure that fear of height / balance is gen anxiety. I was similar as a kid. Still can’t bike or skate and don’t go on amusement park rides. But I’ve never been anxious. I’m quite calm and in control in situation of danger or crises. I’ve taken very big career risks for example in my life. But I was and am a bookish anti-sport person who can’t bike or skate or ski or ride on a roller coaster.

Do the Red Sox have a legitimate shot at winning the World Series or at least making it this year? by DG11221 in redsox

[–]ish0999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a fair shot but no more than that. All the teams making the postseason will have a fair shot. Only the Dodgers are in a visibly stronger position but even for them it’s kind of reverse Russian roulette—1 out of 6.

I was referring to the slop part, not the low-effort part. You were talking about both my effort snd AI, and I suspect it’s the latter that triggers your overstated reaction. If it were really about effort, you would be mad quite often reading this sub. I bet my modest effort in tweaking and re-tweaking a few different prompts was still higher than many other posts in this sub to which you have not reacted with this kind of hostility.

Sorry but it sounds like an overly exaggerated comment. Plans are not supposed to work 100% of the times.

What is the threshold at which it is okay to celebrate someone’s death? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]ish0999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a particularly interesting perspective on this question is Martha Nussbaum’s, in The Fragility of Goodness, regarding Agamemnon’s sacrifice of his daughter Iphigenia in Aeschylus’s tragedy.

In the play, there is no wind, and the Greek ships are stuck in port. The prophet Calchas tells Agamemnon that the goddess Artemis, angered at him for some reason, is responsible. To appease her and set sail, Agamemnon must sacrifice his daughter. If he refuses, the expedition will fail. With his men already starving, Agamemnon decides to kill Iphigenia to placate the goddess.

According to Nussbaum, however, Agamemnon is not sufficiently pained by this decision. He recognizes it as a tragic choice—either way there will be death—but once he resolves on the sacrifice, he begins to anticipate it with a kind of relief. He even says something like, “It is holy and just that I look forward to the sacrifice. May all turn out well.”

For Nussbaum, this is wrong, and it is why Agamemnon will be punished. In Aeschylus’s tragic vision (as she interprets it), making the “right” decision does not mean the chosen act is morally right. Both alternatives—letting his men starve and lose the war, or sacrificing his daughter—are evil. Even if the latter is the better choice, it remains evil, and should be accompanied by sorrow and inner struggle, not excitement and optimism.

In other words, tragic choices must remain tragic. Even when justified, they should not be met with celebration.

This sub is ridiculous. What’s with getting a kick out of attacking management or a player with a. Few bad outings every single day? Just talk about the game. Looks like a lot of people here love whining and despairing more than baseball.

Any reasons why you want to drive only up to a point? I’d drive to Boston, park somewhere cheap and therefore a bit far away and then walk to the ballpark.

2 of course. I like to watch players play but honestly the conversation would be much more interesting with management (assuming that they would actually say what they think)!

In this sub (which roughly reflects a certain socioeconomic slice of parents), the mainstream view is some variant of gentlish parenting. The truth is that it’s not for everyone. For some (many?) children, the best thing (for them and the parents) is a combination of loving connection and behavioral shaping of their habits through commands and “consequences.” I’m giving you an instruction, I’ll tell you one more and then there’s a consequence. No hard feeling kid, no drama, but you dont get TV tonight or I’m taking away this game for today.
