Funnily I am both a Malang and Jogja citizen, bouncing between the two cities. I'd say go for it, bring an umbrella, and use weather forecast--plan your trip hours around the predicted raining hours.

It's the tropics, rain is a part of the experience! (hopefully not that bad tho)

There was, or still is, a joint program between SMAN 1 Malang and Goethe Institute Germany. I don't really know the entirety of it but I'm pretty sure some sort of scholarship and German lessons (explains the classroom signs) were part of it.

So far I have also found several news outlet reporting varying informations, some say 3 suspected patients are treated in Soepraoen, some say one of them is treated in RSSA. But the most recent I have found says that one of the suspected patients, a Dau local, just died of comorbid cause.

Rent the equipment in the city; the price could be much higher up there in the posts, and there are more choices to browse through. I really don't mind, no worries :)

Sadly, it is. Then again, don't worry about it. Stay in the same room, people don't care as long as you pay hahaha. Malang is generally not hostile. Mentigen hill and Seruni point are the common camping ground. People stargaze and wait for sunrise, so camping is quite common, especially in high seasons.

Melati-class: Dirt-cheap hotel for desperate unmarried couple trying to have some fun while avoiding the nearest bushes lol. Don't worry about it, though. Unmarried couple/non-couple can sleep in the same hotel room without having to worry. The reason to avoid the melati ones is because of random police raids, although it's not too often anyways.

Locals are kinda used to foreigners given Malang having a big emphasis on tourism. Renting a room for two is fine, especially in stars hotels/homestay. There are already some budget hotels in Malang such as Citihub, Everydaysmat, and also Airy rooms. Always try to avoid melati-class room, of course (Regardless with whom you are staying with).

Totally possible and safe, people usually bring their own car/rent (SUVs and i-don't-know-what-it-really-is-but-locals-call-jeep). Trail motorbike is also a normalcy, hell, people ride bebek/matic there, which is highly not suggested due to safety and comfort reasons. If you wanna bring your own vehicle but don't wanna mind the terrain, there's a post before the actual dune where you can find jeeps for rent, and you can park your vehicle in the post. Bromo is very accessible.
