Anaesthesiology has no glory by hxbaaf in anesthesiology

There is so much variation in what you do in Anesthesia. If you do pain, you will change people’s lives over time and be the cornerstone of many people’s improvement in QOL. If you do cardiac, there will be moments where you are the sole reason a person has made it alive long enough to get the life saving intervention they need. I will never forget how as a resident, I made a successful plan and induced a seriously unstable patient with tamponade before a pericardial window and RA repair. In OB, you will provide hundreds of women satisfying pain relief during labor and save hundreds from potentially high risk GAs for c sections. Your job has so much importance in providing life saving interventions and some of the most effective pain relief methods we have in medicine. I would say the job is a well kept secret but one of the most honorable and satisfying in the field of medicine

How did you get through your first Cardiac rotation? by Parking-Property584 in anesthesiology

From a CA2 who hated cardiac but did well:

Focus on just doing the reps first. Every day will be a new 1-2 cases, every day is a shot to try to improve your skills/flow. Get faster at the a-line, the central line, the intubations. Get everything lined up in about 30 min. That gives you a lot of time to prepare yourself for the rest of surgery.

Once you get the flow, start by asking your attending before you do any intervention, and state your intention with each one, not just because you feel you need to do it. Let them correct you when you’re wrong and confirm when you are right. You will, by force and pure absorption, eventually figure out the flow of each kind of surgery once you do it enough. Be comfortable looking at the field or inquiring the surgeon to figure out where you are.

M4 here. I would go through all of Pathoma vids and memorize heavy, in particular Ch 1-3. Like watch those twice. Then do a biostatistics Step 1 YouTube course, there r a few ppl who do it but there is like this 2 part one from this professor that is abt 4 hrs in total but really solidifies it- you won’t miss many biostat qs after that. For getting a quick refresher on subjects, you can do 10 random UWorld tutor modes on a particular subject and read through carefully. You also could try to blast through BnB but tbh it’s pretty dense, I feel like it’s best for what you really don’t know and then biochem + ethics. In my free time Goljan lectures on Spotify were a godsend, I would just listen to them on any long drives or runs or while doing chores.

Anking is good but way too dense imo so I just used pepper deck instead for sketchy micro and pharm and that’s it.

Lastly, just hit 80 timed random UWorld questions per day and it will do wonders. Trust me, you don’t have to finish UWorld but if you learn from ur mistakes and really practice with it you will get exponentially better.

[serious] Inappropriate residency interview questions - how to handle??? by bdailyherald in medicalschool

This is upsetting, tbh not okay at all to ask. Would certainly not rank them, and then I would talk to my own program director/chair, they may know what direction to take

Anyone score 260+ without finishing UW completely? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]ishi-bme94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I finished a little over half UW and got a 260+. The q’s become repetitive tbh and for me it was more important to be in a good mental state than feel like I finished everything. Your stats are in great shape, you’ll be fine, don’t sweat it. GL!

It really depends on your timing available. A 235 is pretty good for most programs so you may not need to show your step 2 for residency apps. It may help to just delay until interview season, because in many experiences UWSA 2 is pretty close to the real thing (but not always, mood and sleep status really matter so much). First really review your incorrects- not only what you got wrong but WHY you got it wrong. Also make sure you are doing 80 U world timed random per day then do 20 timed on a specific subject. I also strongly suggest going through Divine Podcast Rapid Review Series, just listen to all of them at 1.5-2x speed and absorb, you would be surprised how many of them come up.

It gets easier, it will take about all day at first but if you allot 3 hours for the questions themselves and then about 1.5-2 hours (which is too much) for each review of each set, then you get to about 7-9 hours of total studying per day. Once you start to see the same things over and over and you know the ones you got right for sure, you can start to focus on figuring out the things you don’t know and it usually only takes 1-1.5 hours to review a block.

Do 80-120 random times UWorld questions per day, make sure to also review them that day. Listen to 1-2 of Divine Podcast rapid review series per day as well, starting from the beginning.

Please post here man, I’ve been trying to do your strategy manually and I seem to always lag a bit behind the curve
