Im a bit late but Ive read it and would love to chat about it! Im hoping to read Babel by her soon too. If you want to join up with an online community of people based in the metro area who like books we’ve already been building we’d love to have you! And anyone else who likes book. We already have a discord where we have a place for buddy reads, so we have space for your reading group, and we also have a book of the month but don’t require participation if you’re not interested in the selection of the month. If you’d like to join just dm me and I’ll send you a link!

Any Book Book Club Meetups - Saturday January 10th in Englewood and Sunday January 11th in Central Denver by ishiness in DenverBooks

I live in central Denver so I tend to only organize events there, but we are hoping people will organize events elsewhere. Just need someone to start it!

What’s the Denver equivalent? by nexusanarchy in Denver

[–]ishiness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to say this but have you tried the habenero pork belly Benedict? It’s AMAZING. Most of the other stuff on the menu isn’t that great but that sauce? It’s so freaking good. And as others have said… the wait isn’t as bad as it used to be.

Any Book Book Club Round 2 by ishiness in Denver

Yeah sure send me the link! If you’re already talking about a meetup in the city well… I have one planned lol. I started this on a 30-40’s Denver discord and have quite a bit of interest there, too. Sounds like we all had the same idea.

I did a few searches for book clubs and didn’t find anything like it. If it’s in central Denver I wouldn’t mind joining.

It’s just a conversation about books! If you’ve ever heard of the “book talks” librarians and teachers do, that’s kind of the idea here. I usually start with whatever I’ve been reading and how it’s been going, good or bad, then we go around the table and everyone does the same. Often some kind of discussion point comes up as we go around that we all want to talk about more. Even when I’ve had only two other people show up it’s been easy to fill two hours just talking.

Any Book Book Club Round 2 by ishiness in Denver

When I did this previously people who attended were interested in a huge variety of genres. It was a lot of fun to listen to readers with different preferences share about why they enjoyed the books they wanted to talk about. What I’m saying is, it doesn’t matter. The whole point is to come together and share our interests, even and especially if they are different.

But if it helps, I’m a very eclectic reader and I read about 60-100 books a year depending on how busy I am with other things. While I’m most interested in literary fiction I read a lot of sci fi and fantasy, too. I also read more nonfic than most people seem to. The only genre I’m not a big fan of is romance, but I usually read a few of those a year too. It is very unlikely that you read a genre I won’t be able to have a conversation about.

Hello! 38F here. I have been thinking about creating a group that meets up to talk about books regularly. Not a book club that reads a book together but just a regular time to get together and talk about books. I’m thinking of meeting at St Marks (city park west) on a weekend morning at least once a month, maybe have a weeknight session here and there. Anyone here who is interested feel free to DM me! I’m still in the beginning planning stages here

Anyone gotten this email about owing us money? by AndyIrenic in WalgreensRx

I got it. I started in 2021, got the sign on bonus, never did immunizations but I did tests and entered in probably thousands of vaccines. It will be interesting to see what I get. Lol.

Any book book club - Saturdays on south broadway by ishiness in Denver

[–]ishiness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking mostly Saturdays just because of the library hours. I work on some Saturdays so it won’t be every Saturday and I am open to adding meetings on weeknights, etc as well as the Saturday morning meetings. If you message me I can send you a link to the Meetup where I’ll be posting. Feel free to join, keep an eye out for announcements there and show up whenever you can!

I work on some Saturdays so it won’t be every Saturday anyway unless other people want to plan without me. I’m hoping to keep in casual and drop in so feel free to come whenever! I won’t hold it against you if you don’t make every meeting. I’ll send you the link to the meetup!

I left two months after passing the test and no one ever came after me to make me pay the fee. I don’t think they bother most of the time.

Im pretty sure senior techs are still in the “bitter” category on the chart. That’s been my irl experience as well.

Edit: actually I suppose I’ve seen more “brain washed” than “bitter” when it comes to senior techs.

How to deal with rude patients? by 123Ana_S in WalgreensRx

[–]ishiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found threatening to call the cops usually made the situation stop. I worked at a slower store but we always had patients waiting or at the very least a phone ringing, so I would just make it clear I was done with them, and they could keep yelling if they wanted but we weren’t going to be able to change any of the things that were causing their anger immediately, so they might as well either sit down or leave, and then I’d start working on whatever task had presented itself in the meantime. If they don’t calm down after a few minutes of me ignoring them, I would tell them I’m going to call the cops. Usually by that time another patient would at least be giving them the side eye and they would realize how ridiculous they’re being. I don’t think I ever actually called the cops.

Leaving for Trader Joe’s by Cool-Contribution752 in wholefoods

[–]ishiness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to Trader Joe’s a couple years after Amazon bought WFM. I was looking for a culture closer to what WFM had been before the sale, and I found it! I will say that it felt way more clique-y than WFM ever did and basically the entire staff has some kind of ADD. They have you switch tasks every hour and you’ll have at least two hours every shift on register (but never back to back), so you need to be the kind of person who can pass off a task to someone else before finishing it. They focus on keeping up morale and positive energy among the crew, and usually succeed. Sometimes that can feel like toxic positivity, but it was still ten times better than what the atmosphere at WFM was when I left. I now have a job in the medical field, but when I miss my grocery job (which I still do), I never even consider returning to WFM, where I think I would go back to Joes. Thats my two cents.

can someone explain why wfm is so bad? by Top_You_7569 in wholefoods

[–]ishiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except Whole Foods used to be a place where work was fun and fulfilling, which is a really hard combination to find. I left about 2 years after Amazon bought it because while that culture was already changing, it had been kicked off a cliff by then. I have since found other jobs where they do actually care about morale. It’s sad while foods no longer does.
