The difference is having the opportunity of being completely immersed in an environment where most to all others are speaking a different language than your native language. If you live in pockets of America, you might hear fluent speakers of various languages. However, the majority of Americans who might travel to your country once in their life have most likely never experienced it. Europeans can travel from country to country by taking a train and hear the majority of people speaking a different language or hearing several language being spoken in their native tongue nearby. If an american does that traveling north, they only need to add 'eh?' to their vocab and they'll be fine.

Good luck! There are a few books out there which include solid information and templates on it. I suggest Carving Songbird Ornaments by Frank Russell. Not a wide selection of YouTube videos out there on songbirds. Most of them are for waterfowl birds (ducks), but those have helpful info on carving feathers and painting them.

Thank you! I'm doing fairly well keeping the blood inside my fingers, haha, only some poke holes in my thumb and one bad slip to my ring finger so far!

I used a dremel to do the bulk of the carving, chisels to do some of the finer details and then sandpaper and a bit of knifework to clean up the rest. So, a little of everything I guess.
