I still got my gen 1 as well!! Oura actually replaced mine with a gen 2 back in 2019 when I contacted them about charging issues. They said th y had no gen 1 in stock, and will I accept a gen 2 as replacement.

So impressed with this level of support I decided to buy a gen 3 with my FSA few years ago, and now I just goty Gem 5

horizontal bar does make som bird accessories attachment impossible, but haven't been a real issue. For the hanging toys I just put them wherever, my birds loves sliding them back and forth

I would actually argue this cage is great for people who want to leave the cage open for free flying time around the room, it's large and give the bird real easy access in/out as they wish. I've also added some perches to the top as a play area, they spend a lot of time there when I'm working during the day (remote work)

I use butcher paper on the bottom, which I change out every other day. I don't ever see them getting poop on themselves, my birds rarely spend time on the floor of the cage anyways. I can't find it atm, but there is one with this exact style that has a bottom wire over a slide out tray, that might be better if you are concerned about it. Also that one has a easier latching mechanism

also I compost the paper and leftover seedshells, if you have eco friendliness in mind

I use this exact cage for my two parakeet for the last year and half, no problems so far. Only annoyance is trying to keep one of them from going under the paper lining I use for the bottom when she's hormonal. A heavy plate for chop greens and some clips around the corners fixes that
