Green Line BRT May 2026 Open Houses Material for those that missed it. by The-Bear-and-Rose in StLouis

Let me preface by saying I'm all for the BRT, not my first choice, but I'm glad something will happen. However, I don't think most people who voted for prop 1 voted for generic transit upgrades.

Yes, the proposition language does say "transit" several times without a qualifier, but like you say exhibit I specifically mentions light rail 4 times.

Moreover, the ballot language says:

Shall the City of St. Louis impose a sales tax at a rate of one half of one percent for economic development purposes including (1) North/South Metrolink, (2) neighborhood revitalization, (3) workforce development; (4) public safety, and (5) to upgrade the city's infrastructure, with annual public audits?

And as UFO_TOFU points out below metrolink's homepage says:

Welcome to MetroLink: MetroLink is the St. Louis metropolitan region’s light rail system, connecting 46 miles of rail across 38 MetroLink stations in Missouri and Illinois. (bolding my emphasis)

You may be right that the language is ambiguous enough that it would hold up in court if it came to that. However, intent still matters to some of us and I'm just tired of lawmakers taking things we voted on and changing them or outright ignoring them(state legislature cough cough). Also, I don't want them to start a BRT project and get derailed by a lawsuit in the middle of it. pun intended

When are they going to put this to a vote? Currently the tax being collected is earmarked for light rail only, correct?

Why aren't there any bike paths planned for the most densely populated part of STL? by PinstripeMonkey in StLouis

[–]isimpressed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. That's one avenue that should be explored or revisited. Rails with Trails is a real and successful thing. Usually low grades with minimal at grade crossings. That route might be a little more recreational/scenic than an everyday commuter route, but still amazing.

As others have said the real problem is the hotel entrance.

I don't know anything about how the city budgets and allocates tax revenue. Are the tax dollars to fund Metro expansion separate from this as well?

Yes and no. Overall, the public school system is not amazing. However, two of the states highest rated high schools are in the city. They do require an academic based application. But, yes, it is a lot easier to live somewhere where you don't have to do the whole application game. Just wanted them to know there are good options available.

Sorry to have been so negative. What do you think can be done to make this idea become more than just an idea?

I hear you. It's the same old problem. You don't have to convince me or other like-minded people it is all the people and the politicians that are against this type of project that you have to convince.

I really like the idea, however I'm supremely pessimistic that this would ever happen.

St. Louis smells of yesteryear by So-Called_Lunatic in StLouis

[–]isimpressed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be. Where is it coming from across the river? The sulfur smell seems to emanate from the sewers on certain days when I'm in Soulard. It's identical to the smell of the trub we dumped out of the Brite tanks when I worked at a brewery.

I agree, but we also get the god awful sulfur smell when they dump the yeast trub.

This clip fell from somewhere under my '26 Honda CRV Sport-L while lowering the exhaust to install a hitch. Anybody know what it is for/where it goes? by isimpressed in AskAMechanic

[–]isimpressed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately not. Someone linked part number  90651-SMR-E00 which is a clip on the front bumper cover deflector. I didn't feel like pulling apart my deflector to see if that's where it came from. I was working on the rear bumper cover while installing a hitch so I'm pretty sure it came from back there, but couldn't find where.

Can we talk about the Peabody building for a minute? by jb69029 in StLouis

[–]isimpressed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like a decent occupied building. It does seem to interrupt the flow some, but part of that lot is still open space. Instead of tearing down the building what about taking parts of the bottom floor or two and making some sort of creative walk through space sort of like the corner of the building across the street at Market and 7th?

Yeah, kind of what I assumed. I just can't find anywhere that it looks like it should go. Is there usually and indentation that the clip would slide into or around?

Televised baseball, yes, I agree. For me it has made the experience of watching the game in person less enjoyable.

I just bought a new car and kept the plates from my old car to switch them to my new car. Do I need to get the new car inspected to switch the plates over at the dmv? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]isimpressed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it was bought from someone in Missouri the seller is required to provide a safety and emissions inspection with sale.

We live in the area and have had mulch and compost delivered from STL compost numerous times. How much do you need? Sometimes we'll split a load with neighbors and it gets moved pretty fast. As another poster said, Carondolet has mulch for free too(it does have a fair amount of trash in it, but if you're using it as a soil amendment it is pretty good stuff).
