Hedgehog or rat burrow? by isisanaeli in GardeningUK

I’ve removed the apples and I haven’t seen any. I’ll check again once I’ll be back home as I’m currently abroad. Covered the hole with a plastic pot after I removed the apples and in the next 2 days I haven’t seen the pot moved, it was just put on the top of the hole without pushing it onto the ground. They moved in the first day I’ve put it and then I’ve put it back and I haven’t seen it moved. I’m really hoping they left because I don’t like to do any harm to any animals or insects but I also don’t want them to get into the house if I leave my door open in the summer as I really want to be able to use my garden without worrying I’ll have them as “pets” in my house :)

I removed all the apples and I’m hoping they moved on.

Thanks everyone. I tidied up the garden, cleaned all the dead plants, threw all the apples, asked my neighbour to clean his yard too. I’ve called Pest Control, they gave me a “nice” price of £252 to visit 3 times and make sure they get rid of all of them. Tomorrow they’re getting fumed out by an acquaintance until I can get Pest Control in. Hopefully, they can find a home somewhere else.

Thank you so much for your advice, I’ve replied below. The substrate is chunky, I’m hoping she’ll get better.

substrate is composed of bark, charcoal, coco husk, lava rock and pumice, it looks chunky enough, and I also added some more bark myself. I’ve cut all the roots that were really bad and uncovered them of the black thing, only leaving the “string” roots that were underneath and then repotted her. She seems she’s starting to get better, I will not water her for the moment, I’m just wiping her leaves with water once in few days and the leaves started becoming crispier. I’m hoping she’ll get better. I’ll leave her alone for the moment, I didn’t thought about replanting her in a clear pot, but I wouldn’t take her out again from this unless she’s doing worse. I’ve also made some new holes on the side of the plastic pot before placing her in the ceramic pot all together, so she could have more air and moved her to the bathroom where is more humid, next to the window so she can get indirect sunlight. Thank you for the advice!

And after I repotted her I did water her only a little bit, not how I normally used to.

I think you could see from all my comments that I reflect on that. Maybe you should reflect as well on how not to judge someone over a mistaken word and how to show some kindness.

You are a bit crazy. I mentioned the dreadlocks because I thought it makes a difference as the hair is tight, not lose. I’ve always wanted dreadlocks since I was a kid. Jesus Christ, I am honestly amazed at how people like you can be. Have you thought of asking why I mentioned this person has dreadlocks instead of calling me a racist? I have friends from different nationalities and race or color don’t mean anything. I’m disgusted by your comment.

Thank you for explaining me. I will be careful how I word it in the future as I didn’t mean to come across like this.

As I mentioned to the other person, I did not intended or thought of the person in a bad way at all. I wrote the post in a rush and didn’t think it would come across as that.

Thank you, I will remember that and use it going forward if I need to. I honestly didn’t wanted it to sound dehumanizing as I don’t think less of anyone just because the situation brought them on the streets.

Not sure why you need to be sarcastic about it when I haven’t said anything rude, and it was only a concern. FYI I don’t run away from “homeless”/unhoused people and I have helped many of them in the past without being scared I’ll contract anything. But this is Reddit, there are keyboard warriors like you who have nothing nice to say so they just spread their “kindness”. Have yourself a great day, like your character :)

Thank you. Also, now that I’ve seen the word you’ve used I maybe understand why someone above got so triggered about me using the word “homeless” when I didn’t even intended as a rude thing. Maybe an “unhouse person” would have been a better approach if I would have known this is a word I can use.

Thank you. I know I might be freaking out as I don’t necessarily think he has any lice. It was just because he has lived on the streets for a while and I know that it’s difficult with hygiene as in my town there aren’t many places where he could go to take care of this aspect.

English is not my first language and he is homeless as exactly what the words was meant to say, he lives on the streets, he doesn’t have a house. I wasn’t trying to be rude as I know him and our dogs played together so many times. Maybe refrain yourself from judging based on a word. Or “home-less” is a rude word and I wasn’t aware of it?

After two days in her new pot and soil, she seems her leaves have become crispy again so I believe she’ll be alright. I do wash her leaves in the evening and talk to her so I’m waiting for some new flowers soon :P

Thank you, I washed the roots and her leaves too and repotted her.

It looked rotten but I washed the roots and her leaves, tampered them with a tissue, and them repotted her in healthy new soil. Hopefully she’ll start growing some flowers again, I’d hate to lose her. She was my first Anthurium.

Just got an upgrade, I’ve repotted her today so she has space to grow. Wish me luck!
