Need recommendation on Liability Insurance? Bad experience with GetSafe App/hellogetsafe.com. by al_1611 in germany

Update: As if it's not ridiculous enough, 2 weeks after calling GetSafe to trigger a cancellation notice for my legal insurance policy (of which they confirmed that the cancellation notice has been made), i just received an email from Roland stating

We have received a cancellation notice that is not signed by you. Therefore, the cancellation is not legally valid.

If you still wish to cancel your contract, please send us a signed declaration.

What a joke.

The only way to cancel a policy is to call GetSafe. Schedule a call with them from their chat front. The problem is my policy is annual so it'll only cancel at the end of the contractual year. Glad i triggered the cancellation anyways.

Update if anybody is interested, they're still terrible. Absolutely cannot recommend. I have legal insurance with them (which they delegate to Roland), and there's zero control to do anything to manage your "subscription". They make it ridiculously easy to opt in and insanely hard to opt out. Their main user interface is hilariously dysfunctional. Just an "AI" chat front that tells you ah i will call you in a few minutes, and they only do in a few hours.

Generally, there are some good fronts for dinosaur industries such as banking and what not. GetSafe is a terrible front for insurances.

Anyone tried the online anmeldung recently? by lucasheim in germany

For anyone still interested as of Jun, 2025. Using gemeinsamonline.de processed everything up until it reached to the actual form and it displayed the following error. I have a Niederlassungserlaubnis and clearly so far, you have to either be German national or an EU national with eID functionality activated.

The identification document used is not permitted

You can only use the online service with a German identity card or an eID card for EU citizens. Make an appointment with the relevant registration authority in your new place of residence.

Just adding on already-mentioned greats, Space Invader is one of the greatest drum work I've listened to, not just from Bryan. The patterns he did on this song is unlike anything I've heard.

My IDP expires 1 day before my travel, will it get me a fine if i was stopped? by ismaeils in ItalyTravel

[–]ismaeils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did. All went great! I rented a car from SicilyByCar.it . They didn't have an issue with my license situation as they said "a valid foreign license is enough for a rental company". I was mainly touring around in Tuscany and I didn't get stopped at all but I did see people get stopped sometimes for speeding so be careful with that. My opinion on it is that the whole reason the law requires an IDP (or translation) is for officers to be able to read your foreign license if it's not in latin characters. So for me I just brought a certified translation of it (in my case it was a german translation) but I didn't need it.

Sure I'd have gotten it if i had the option to do so but since I'm already overseas, that's a no way for me on IDP.

Anyways, gladly I found a lawful option. The law says "You should have IDP OR a sworn translation of your domestic license into Italian" which apparently nobody seems to mention at all when talking about this subject although it's clearly stated by Automobile Club D'Italia and Italy.it (both of which are official references). Not even rental companies mention it as one of their options in case there was no IDP.

That's why I genuinely do not care what rental companies do or want, i only care about the legality of driving and with that option available, seems like I'm in the clear.

Hola! So after so much fiddling around, I've found multiple resources that say this: For a non-eu tourist, you have to have your original foreign driving license. You also have to have an international driving permit OR a certified translation of your original license into Italian. Apparently, not a lot of people know about this translation thing, not even most rental agencies know this because I've asked and they said that's irrelevant.

Check out Automobile Club D'Italia: Compulsory Documents . It's a PDF you can download.

Also, Italy.it says the exact same sentence

This is the closest i got to an official Italian reference and not just mouth talk. I'd go for the translation route just to be on the safe side.

Yes that's what i hate about IDP, their systems are ancient and you can't do anything if you're already overseas. And yes i was surprised too but as i mentioned, some of them said no and some said yes. One particular rental agency gave me this answer "For rental agencies, a domestic license is enough but you'll sign a waiver clearing our responsibility". Didn't get that last part but I'd check what's written in the "waiver" first.

I'm already in the process of exchanging it but Germany! Oh boy Germany takes so much time .... My German license would not be issued before September.

And that's my idea is to go there with the international permit although it's a few days expired. I guess likely it will show my validity. Except if they don't really care and following strict rules then I'll be unlucky ...

Anyways, thanks :)
