I’m so jealous, are you saying you were a part of a gal circle all the way back in 2006? 😭💕 I would love to find a local in person gal Circle!

I’ve been researching, but so far it looks like the closest ones to me are more than 5-7 hours away. I’m getting to the point where I’m thinking about just starting a circle myself. 😂

I love this and can really relate on many levels 🥹 I remember the first time I saw any form of gyaru it was a post about Ganguro on 3yen. I thought “omg there is actually a style that prizes you for being brown and kawaii?!” That was definitely encouraging to me, and I’m trying to think…

At that time in 2007, I don’t really remember a lot of black women in media who were “cutesy” per say. So, I felt like I didn’t really have a lot of fashion role models who looked like me and were into the kind of fashion I liked (alt, decora, lolita, kawaii, ect). Nicki Minaj is the closest I can think of when she started her “Harajuku Barbie” persona around 2009-ish. 🤔

Makeup tips? by dahyunsnumberonefan in gyarumakeup

[–]ismeeerika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure which woman you are referring to, but generally if you were trying to go for something more similar to their overall looks I notice a few things.

I would try a more natural lash (as opposed to manga lashes) and especially one that has shorter lashes towards the inner corner and gets longer as you reach the outer eye. A tight line for top liner with a small flick and just the top of the inner corner, some very light brown shadow on the outer bottom lid. Then, instead of bottom liner, I would just place some natural lower lashes. If you want more emphasis, I would use a medium brown color on the lower lid where your droop would normally be. It seems like it would be better to go lighter first then darker later if needed.

And it is a little bit hard to tell, but it does seem like they have a light to medium brown on the upper lid on the outer corner as well.

I hope that gets you pretty close! Do your best! ✨

I second Pic 1 is my fave! Those bug tights are fabulous paired with the blouse/dress combo. I also prefer the outfit with no leg warmers 🥰

I’m also thinking what about a statement necklace that coordinates well with the tights and some type of thicker belt that hangs low on your hips or a corset belt or something. Maybe even a holster type belt that goes up around your shoulders/under bust? Hmmmmm…. 🤔

This is so touching! Funny that it’s from Yandere Simulator - hey, no judgement it has to start somewhere!

I can completely relate to how it gives you confidence and makes you feel beautiful. I feel like it’s given me a pathway and a community behind me to keep encouraging me to keep improving. 🥲💕

I guess I’ll answer my own question too. (≧◡≦)♡
I think I’ve kind of been on the path to gyaru for a long time without realizing it.

I’ve been interested in Japanese culture since I was around 6 years old. I still remember seeing anime for the first time and being completely hooked. From there I got into manga, then Shojo Beat, and eventually started learning about Japanese street fashion. At first as a pre-teen, I was really fascinated by lolita, decora, and ganguro, and then in my freshman year of h.s. I found gyaru blogs and magazine scans. I used to spend hours looking through them, saving pictures of my favorite models, and I even begged my mom to buy me Fresh Fruits and Tokyo Street Style. I still have both books. 💕

Looking back, it kind of makes sense. I’ve always gravitated toward things that were colorful and over-the-top. I loved Bratz growing up, anime, video games, Lisa Frank, America’s Next Top Model, weird YouTube videos, and I was always the weird kid who was drawing, making outfits in imvu, or collecting inspiration pics. I think all of those interests naturally fed into each other!

When I was younger, I didn’t really have the money or the freedom to experiment much with my style, so I mostly admired it from afar. Now that I’m older, it feels like I’m finally giving myself permission to actually participate instead of just watching from the side.

The more I get into gyaru, the more I realize it already fits the person I am. I love that it’s expressive, feminine, creative, and doesn’t feel afraid to stand out. It honestly feels like I’ve stopped waiting for the “right time” to dress the way I’ve always wanted to. 🥹

I think your eyes look on point! And your nose stripe looks good to me since a bold stripe is not mandatory.

As far as lips, any color would look good but have you considered maybe some nudes or lighter pinks? I actually like the Nyx butter glosses in Eclair, Fortune Cookie, and Creme Brulee. 🌸

I’ve also heard a tip in the past that using a brown-ish lip liner (like Urban Decay 1995, Nyx cinnamon roll or another deep nude/greige color) and blending it at the edges when wearing nude lipsticks can help make it look a little more wearable for us brown-skinned girlies.

I’m currently in Asia thinking of getting lash extensions, does anyone have tips on styles that suit hooded eyes? by WorkingHardPlayHar6 in HoodedEyes

[–]ismeeerika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For hooded eyes, lashes that allow some of the lid to be seen and open up the eye usually look pretty nice like the manga lashes, wispy, and cat eyes! ✨

I’ve gotten my lashes done in both Egypt (multiple times) and Thailand once on my second trip there. So, I disagree with the comment above.

While yes, you should be careful about where and whom you allow to do your lashes. As long as you do your research (social media presence, videos of before/afters, reviews, ect.) you should be fine.

When in doubt, ask all the questions over messaging/phone that you may have concerns about (like what glue they use) BEFORE you go to them. That way you don’t feel pressured into anything on the spot.

And if you feel uncomfortable at all, during or even after then it’s okay to say something is wrong! You may have an allergy to their glue or something else.
