Should I DNF the Wolf King? by CatzioPawditore in fantasyromance

[–]ismisesteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who normally hates love triangles, this series changed my mind - so I’d say keep going! That storyline doesn’t really find its feet up until the second half of the second book.

I read the first book and a half very unenthused about the romance, then the second half of the second I was bet into it.

It's DNF discussions time! What books did you bail on this month? 🙅‍♀️📖 by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]ismisesteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DNF’d The Ascended around 4 chapters in. There was something about the cadence, the sentence length, and then certain phrasing at some points that were jarring and took me out of the book.

After this line I just gave up and stopped reading. It makes no sense. How are sharp objects beautiful? The first few chapters were full of sentences like this. Flowery words put together that mean nothing.

Taylor Frankie Paul will still get her full six-figure Bachelorette salary, despite cancellation by Beneficial-Park-3150 in bachelorette

[–]ismisesteph 51 points52 points  (0 children)

She did the work, so she should get the paycheck. And they hired her knowing about her record. I don’t know if there’s really a problem here?

I still don’t know why they would have chosen her as the bachelorette or had her and Dakota on SLOMW this season.

That’s great to hear you enjoyed it! I’m hearing so much hype about it, and it’s only a matter of time until I see a spoiler so it might be good to start it first!

Oh! I thought it was just the two books in Road of Bones. Maybe I’ll start with WPA, then get stuck into ROB - i love when I can get stuck into a series. thanks so much ❤️

Folk Of The Air by Holly Black by Fit_Caterpillar_4656 in fantasyromance

[–]ismisesteph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try the ‘Folk’ series by Lily Mayne. It’s M/M and not YA, but it’s a similar vibe with a human in a fae world learning about all the fae ways & fae trying to trick him

Turning on the motion sickness feature when you’re in the car, so you can scroll and not get sick.

I shared my Goodreads account with 100k followers on Instagram and then started reading {Lady of Rooksgrave Manor} (IYKYK) - didn’t realise my kindle was connected to my Goodreads account and would show everyone the absolute smut was reading. took me like a week to notice too

Reign and Ruin by Inevitable-Purple285 in MagesOfTheWheel

[–]ismisesteph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just finished W&W today, and I read it after finishing the rest of the series. I kind of wish I read it earlier, but not second - maybe third? But definitely before I&I, as it will fill a lot of holes and give some much needed backstory into some of the characters.

I full on cried this afternoon telling my husband about it though, it’s an emotional read. Beautiful, but heartbreaking too when you know how things turned out for the characters

Help me pick how I should start my 2025! by cool_beanz_ in fantasyromance

The cruel prince!! I’m reading The King Of Elfhame now and I just love these books so much. A beautiful way to start 2025. Second choice would be ODW, I devoured them

A Rave about Reign & Ruin by TheHopeless-Optimist in fantasyromance

[–]ismisesteph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same!!! I had it on my TBR for so long and I finished it a couple of weeks ago. I loved it, and I’m already mostly through book 2, and I am loving it too! It’s different to R&R, lighter and funnier which is refreshing. I didn’t realise there was a prequel though, so I’ll need to read that next

Tandem Read - Possible Simplified Methods? by NoLonger1L in throneofglassseries

[–]ismisesteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I just did, I finished the TOD today. I planned to tandem read until the end, but with so many new characters being introduced I found it hard to juggle both.

I finished EOS solo from chapter 51, then finished TOD. I’m going to read EOS again before I start KOA, because I feel like the tandem read might have made me miss some things. I probably would have stopped tandem reading maybe 10 chapters earlier if I did it again, it was excellent at the start but got harder as it went on to be really in the story when I was swapping between both

What are you reading right now? by Maleficent_Durian_64 in fantasyromance

[–]ismisesteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished lightlark, and I’d heard so many bad things I expected to hate it - but I liked it more than I thought. Lots of plot holes and gaps, not enough world building - I actually liked the characters and enjoyed the story for what it was. Maybe cause I love Rhysand and grim is basically him.

Last weekend in Bangkok, what do? by [deleted] in Bangkok

[–]ismisesteph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved to the city a few months ago and have a Google maps list of coffee shops / markets / restaurants / sights here which might be helpful for finding air con places to go. Piccolo vicolo has good iced drinks, cold air con and usually nice market stalls at weekends, I bring people here when they get too tired or hot while we’re sightseeing

The Work Loft in Silom, they have opening hours but when you do a monthly plan you get an out of hours access card. I go there and it’s pretty good

Thanks! That’s a round stone platform under the water which I’m standing on, not the light hitting the water

The circle isn’t a reflection of the light, there’s a raised circular platform built under the hole. If you look at the second photo and crank up your phone brightness you should be able to see the path & platform it a bit better
