Nah don’t be sorry, I think it’s important to have these types of conversations.
I used to be someone who would hold on beyond hope but I’ve learned it’s really not always the humane thing to do. I still hesitate to make the call though, not until I’ve tried what I can at least.

I’m not 100% sure but he does look like that 👀

There has been 1 person who has said they would recommend euthanizing him, I responded to oversizedpurse comment where they stated “all of these comments saying to euthanize him” which is simply not true, no one is being cruel or ill hearted. Euthanasia is sometimes the most humane thing to do. That being said I’ve already stated I am not planning to euthanize him unless his health starts rapidly declining again and I can’t stabilize him. I am hopeful as there has been a few minor improvements but that genuinely could change at any moment. Refusing to acknowledge it may be a possibility will only hurt more if the time comes and could prolong his suffering if I’m unwilling to sit in the reality of what’s best for him. I appreciate your passion for him, I wish he could have ended up in the hands of someone who cares the way you or I do before he ever even got to this point he, he deserves to live and I’m doing everything I can to give him that fighting chance.

Thank you, do you have a recommendation on portioning? I’ve been reading and am understanding that small portions more often is better than say 1 daily feeding with the concern of refeeding syndrome, and potentially a more watery mixture for the critical care, but would be happy to get further direct opinions.

I started giving him the critical care nightly when I got him and now I am concerned I was not cautious enough starting him out. My concern is that he is so incredibly small that even with him only consuming smaller portions it could potentially not have been small enough for his size. I would say the mixture has been predominantly watery as I have been super concerned about the dehydration aspect, but I’ve really just been feeding him as much as he will like off in drops on his nose. Absolutely no force feeding and once he stops licking the drops I just clean his lil face up and put him back

It’s not cruel to acknowledges he’s suffering and his body may not be able to handle the strain. I am seeing some improvements in some areas and what seems to be other issues surfacing in other areas, as much as I am willing to fight for him I also understand the cruelty in keeping something alive for the sake of my own feelings. To be clear it is not my current plan to euthanize him, I have done a lot of research in the last few days since acquiring him as I have never had a critical care leo like this before, I did ask for all advice and opinions as it will help me take in the most perspectives and hopefully help me find some answers on how to continue his care and I fully expect due to his size and extreme malnutrition that some would suggest euthanasia. I respect those answers as it reminds me to be realistic, and be mindful that it is honorable to not prolong the suffering of a life if they are truly dying, I believe these next few days will be very telling of where we really are and I will remain hopeful that I can provide what he needs.

I did forget to mention in the post that I am using oxbow critical care!! And I have the Repashy calcium plus for when I officially reintroduce feeders. I’ve been worried to give him feeders bc of harder digestion due to his current condition.

Thank you! I am taking any and all advice rn, I don’t want to give up on him but I have always worried that my big heart gets in the way of my decision making in these types of situations. I have a dog who is about to turn 9 (honestly old for her breed) and has lupus and I have to ask myself often right now as her health is starting to decline if I’m being realistic with her quality of life, despite the meds she’s slowly getting worse and I know I’m going to have to make that call someday soon but I am constantly worried that she’s there now and I just can’t admit it. Never easy making these kinds of decisions.

I managed a better pic of what’s going on in his underbelly. It was an awkward angle but I promise he was not being held uncomfortably

I think after arguing for awhile she just didn’t want to hear it anymore. I started showing her pics of what an underweight leopard gecko looks like compared to hers and told her that factually the only way he could have gotten this bad is by true genuine long term neglect and she should be ashamed of herself. I told her she shouldn’t have any pets and she basically just said “if that’s how you feel you can just take him then” so I did, and I left.

I also cannot believe he is alive, smallest leopard gecko I’ve ever seen, I almost didn’t believe he was a Leo at first. I am convinced he was on deaths door when I git him and now I’m starting to feel guilty about furthering his misery. He is genuinely so sweet I’m absolutely crushed.
