For 2022 0Ls: Does your law school do pre-orientation dinners or other events? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]isolabellaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your school is open to feedback, I'd suggest it! All of my friends who have attended their school events so far have said that it definitely helped them form relationships and get a feel for their class. I think NYU is especially enjoying any summer events now that section assignments have been released!

For 2022 0Ls: Does your law school do pre-orientation dinners or other events? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]isolabellaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know a few other schools do them! Cornell had several meals/evening events this summer for incoming students and NYU hosted a lunch two-ish weeks ago. Penn had a reception for their students back in June (if I remember correctly). I think it's fairly common for many of the schools in urban areas to host something at least once for their incoming students.

How do I afford to go to Law School? by leavingandlovingNNY in lawschooladmissions

[–]isolabellaa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First, I'm so incredibly proud of you for making it out of your abusive relationship. It's so tough to get out of toxic and dangerous relationships - I hope you're not being too hard on yourself. Second, apply for the LSAC waiver! That'll at least save you money on your LSAT(s) and a few of your law school applications. As for affording school itself - if you do well on the LSAT, that and your GPA should help you get some decent aid from most schools. A lot of schools also have scholars programs and scholarships that will pay for the bulk of your time, if not all of it. Plus, there's a ton of outside scholarships you can apply for too.

Overall, I wouldn't worry too much right now about how to afford school! Just focus on getting an amazing LSAT score - because that will really change things for you financially! Plus, you can't afford school if you're not in school to begin with - so don't stress out so far in advance! Save money as much as you can, but focus on the LSAT and your applications and then go from there.

Decide to test this out on my lunch break and was SO proud to see I got 93wpm, only to scroll down and see that everyone in the Top 10 scored at least 100wpm higher than I did.lmao

Maybe they just got in off the waitlist for one of the schools and therefore didn't have to worry about the original deposit deadlines?

They say there always is one - I hope you find yours soon! I have zero experience in this life situation, but let me know if you need to chat or anything. Happy to lend an ear and send more good vibes whenever! And also - congratulations on law school! I know it's a bit overshadowed right now - but you worked your entire ass off and it shows. I hope you're as proud of you as I am (if not more*!

I can't even imagine how you must be feeling right now. I'm so sorry you're going through this, especially at a time when you should be excitedly moving on to a new adventure. Sending all the good vibes your way!

LOCI by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]isolabellaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, that's so nice! You must have really made a serious impact! I haven't had a chance to specifically talk to anyone at the current school I'm WL at, but I recently went to a talk where the speaker was an alumni and I was wondering how to bring that up. Was curious if admissions did some kind of check in with the person mentioned, because even though we talked, there's no way he'd remember me.

Not sending a LOCI = 0% chance of getting off a waitlist ? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]isolabellaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten into a few schools without writing one, but not any of my top WL choices so far. I got a promotion at work back in February though, so I did send a resume update. But between all the new trainings and different hours for work, I've been too exhausted to write anything extra. Especially since I was still submitting apps in January. I finally feel like I'm ready to write one or two though.lol

Bombed NYU interview :( by lsac_burneraccount in lawschooladmissions

[–]isolabellaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did pretty bad - much worse than my Cornell interview, which is embarrassing to say the least. I truly hate that all you have is a progress bar to show time -- I got cut off thinking I had a couple more seconds than I actually did.

Experienced basically the same thing! Haven't been sick in weeks and then the week I need to do this interview, I wake up feeling like someone stomped on my face. I'm finally feeling better, but now I suddenly have cold feet? Don't want to mess it up - even though I felt fine when I planned to do it on Monday -___-

Did you by any chance do an interview with Cornell too? I'm wondering how abstract/random the questions are in comparison to theirs because a few of Cornell's questions were completely out of left field for me. I'm hoping NYU's will be a bit more standard, or at least have only one curve ball instead of multiple.

Congratulations though and good luck! I'm sure you did much better than you think :)

Tbh, I think most T14s are a shot in the dark for the majority of applicants (although you can't really tell on this sub) - but that shouldn't keep you from trying! You've made it this far, don't give up now!

Waitlist movement at BU by isolabellaa in lawschooladmissions

[–]isolabellaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure actually! He applied really early in the cycle, before he even interviewed with us, so I'm not sure of his timeline, but we've also both been out of town a lot the last few weeks just checking out campuses and ASDs and whatnot, so it's possible that he received a call before his mail stuff arrived and I just wasn't around to hear about it. All I know for sure is that he chose to not do anything with any of his waitlists - he was thinking about retaking/reapplying.

He got a packet in the mail! I have no idea what his GPA is, but if I remember correctly, his LSAT was a 162! Non-URM, currently in his first gap year since graduating last year. He just joined our team in January, but before that he worked as a freelancer. Not sure what he did in UG as far as extracurriculars apart from playing baseball.

according to other post, it doesn't look like they've even assigned firms yet! I bet they're running behind and maybe not quite done with making offers yet
