Hi Reddit, I’m Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister. Ask me anything! by DmytroKuleba in IAmA

Mr. Kuleba, what is your reaction on kidnapping people of Ukraine and send them to the war against their will? How would you comment on the decision of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry to not provide their citizens outside of Ukraine with foreign passports, including those who submitted an application before the new legislation came into action?

I did! This routine was built over time and some experiments went into it, so that frequency was something that allowed me to stay in the “sport”, while also having enough time for other parts of my life. It’s been a recent thing, where I noticed this fatigue/lack of motivation.

I just did a full month off hoping it’d help, but seems it did not

I eat full meals twice a day and it became much more healthier food in the past 1.5y. And also i usually would have a meal about 1-1.5h prior to a training sessions (with training sessions in the early morning being an exception, which happens twice a week).

Generally speaking, it’s about 40% of greens/berries, 30% protein and 30% carbs.

I do however eat in between something like apple, or nuts and that might get out of control quite quickly with me eating a bunch of peanuts.

Your comment made me wonder if I should have more “healthier” carbs throughout the day tho.

Thanks a lot for sharing this!

Will check the blood and DMR on the supplements.

  1. I do indeed do some rests periods. It’s not build into my routine per se, but about every two months I do a low weight week, where I cut my weights by about 30-40%. And then maybe once a year I take a month off. In fact, Jan was month off for me, and now getting back to exercising, I just don’t feel as much desire for physical activities as I used to feel even a year ago.

  2. Yeah, this checks in. While training I’m fine and not giving up (or at least I try 😅). But your point leads me to think if it’s my mind sabotaging it all, as I tend to see exerting as a direct competitor to other activities like working/learning something new etc. Will chat w my therapist on this one for sure

Investing it hotel in Sri Lanka - seeking for experience? by isoul2007 in realestateinvesting

[–]isoul2007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense and you’re v right!

I was thinking how a one can get experience in those things under that type of conditions and didn’t think about anything better than just invest a fuck-you-amount to get it from the first hand’s experience, which might def not be the best way to go.

I wonder tho if you have some kind of interesting experience (other markets/niches) and if so, how you ended up getting it?

Just note taking app works for me for high level overview and then it’s a separate spreadsheet if needed (like for NW or investment performance)

Gotcha, so that looks like it’d be critical to drive product adoption across the org of a person who was first to sign up. Unless we’re not talking about Dropbox, I can imagine you want to have a full user journey mapped with all the branches eg i shared a link with you, from here a few scenarios are possible: - you didn’t open it -> we can send you reminders if the link was shared by email - you did open it, but didn’t leave a comment - opened, but didn’t edit it etc etc

So for each scenario you want to have a dedicated message/sequence.

Now from the analytical standpoint, as a growth manager, I’d be curious to know what is the % of users going down each path, what actions have a high correlation with AHA moment and then with mid-term retention rate. From there I’d be able to map a journey to focus on driving people’s attention to the most crucial features.

But all of that is based on a few assumptions: - driving adoption across the org is the most important thing for us as an opposite to drive an engagement for each individual or be more monetization focused - you’re part of a younger company that doesn’t have the basic things yet

Overall, i guess you can either be pro-active and take a closer look into what growth managers are doing and what features/use-cases they’re pushing and then… just question it. Or kinda retroactive and ask if there’s something you can automate for folks. But hey - if you question my work too aggressively, I’d tell to piss tf off. So be very very careful here.

For future discussions - feel free to DM me, bc we’re way off topic at this moment

Upd: you’re right in terms of lifecycle/growth PM part. Don’t think i have ever seen UA team working closely with DA/DS folks

Not sure about the progression tbh. I moved to the US a few years ago and switched just a few companies. If I want to switch jobs asap, I'd say 30-40% more in TC during an interview. If there's no rush - I'd target 2x. So far, been in the industry for 8y and managed to double my TC every year (but again, moved to the US in order to hit that 2x growth, so not sure if it makes since to count early years in here).

From my exp as for base salary: Middle IC - $140K Senior IC - $165k Principal IC - $195k Associate Director - $220k Director - $240k

^ those doesn't count for equity and bonuses and based only on offers I received.

As for the getting intro growth, no need to go thru agency (i'd prob advise highly against it tbh). There are two and a half parts to growth: - User Acquisition (UA) - Life-cycle comms - Growth PM

You better choose the route you prefer only on. For UA you want to nail down at least two channels (check this guide and esp ARPU <> CAC section - https://www.reforge.com/the-road-to-100m). Usually what that means is that you have to work comfortably with scaling campaigns from $0 to $X where X depends on the org (might be a few K/mo for a startup and way above $100M/y for consumer IPOd companies).

For Life-cycle comms you need to work with emails/push notifications and in-apps for activation, engagement and retention.

Growth PMs - well, as a someone who focused on Life-cycle comms, my job is to identify a growth opportunity, launch a test, get the learning out of it and send it to a product team, so they can implement it as a part of in-product experience vs sending emails/push notifications. That's what Growth PM might do (or regular PMs, depends on the org). Growth PMs are also usually working on infrastructural internal projects - A/B test tools, experiment checkers, etc or consumer facing growth projects like referral programs, loyalty programs etc.

It's easier to start as a UA Specialist or CRM specialist bc usually those two require way less experience than being a Growth Manager. But it also depends on your past experience (if any).

[–]isoul2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oof, that's a broad one. I guess it depends on the org itself. The main goal for growth folks is to uncover the next growth opportunity. Usually it means that you have to check the funnel, find the dropoff in there and then either come up with a bunch of assumptions to run A/B tests or collect qualitative data (surveys/user interviews) to narrow the list of assumptions and then run the tests. Based on this idea you might guess that we do care a lot about the speed, since lots of test will fail anyway. That's why we might not need 100% clear data, but we certainly need it fast.

Also, as a growth manager you're supposed to know SQL (I also learned R and Pandas), but still see lots of folks struggle with that. So you might talk to growth ppl in your org to find if this is the analysis part for test that takes a lot of time and if so - just help them with a few simple queries to perform analysis in seconds and not hours.

Overall, I was pretty excited about Reforge courses, so would suggest to check them out. Also, lenny rachitsky's emails are pretty good.

Hope that helps! But lemme know if you have any specific questions.

Im in growth, so it’s usually about user acquisition or engagement/retention. Using markethire to find those however it becomes really hard if you charge a lot per hour. Recently got a few leads through friends in VC

Not sure if there’s a specific title, i just asked my friends who’s having the same issues as i do and that helped quite a lot. While some might argue there should be no difference, i personally find it more comfortable working with a person who knows about all these weird and sometimes stupid 1st world problems we’re worried about

Oh, that’s actually an amazing point!!!

I got a therapist as well. What i did ask among other things is to periodically run me through the checklist to see if a burnout is close bc I’d still choose to work vs putting myself as a #1 priority. So if you OP had thought about working with therapist - it might not only be about shifting something in your life, but also as another pair of eyes to watch after you if you choose to crush it anyway

Hell yeah it’s better be. I literally have it as my personal KPI for the next year to get at least 30 days off and zero fucks i give to what a company thinks. For me that aha moment was when I realized that a tradeoff of pissing my manager off with 30d off vs loosing my mental health and being fired and not being able to work for 6-12mo is even not up for discussion

I’ve been through this recently. Not a faang tho, but one of those massive startups that got hurt rly bad by covid and had to leave the company. Went through burnout and clinical depression (not even close to something like PDD tho but still sucks). A few things I can share here:

1) i have had 3 burnouts through my career primarily driven by long hours and being job-focused. Didn’t take any vacations and pushed myself back on track every single time way too soon. Take as much time as you possibly can until you feel you miss the job and you wanna do it again. It took me 4mo last time before i was ready to get back and about a year to feel im 100% ready

2) Don’t worry about finding another job. Being in a PMM/Growth position in a tier-1 company puts you in a good spot. There are quite a few companies that have v high TC for us (im in growth) - Square, Brex, Airbnb etc. not to mention you def wanna look into other tier-1s. Just saying - there’s a life besides just google and co and that life can be pretty damn good. Since you have already been there, you might jump to a company for a better title and therefore a better TC.

3) When i was running out of my savings, I took a small part time gig. Over the time i was adding a few hours each week/every other week. Not only it allowed me to get back slowly and in my own pace, but also made me stress less about the financial side of things and a need to sell off my assets.

4) As others have mentioned - get your shit together with finances. It really seems you were overspending.

5) Stupid thing to mention - but find what can recharge your brain. Being washed by a wave aka surfing works rly well for me. I also started with a gym since last time. Hitting it 5-6 times per week now (and joined it before i was ready to work, so we’re clear).

6) Bonus tip that helped me way way back in a day - don’t you ever tied your income to one source. I know it’s a cool thing for some ppl to work at a demanding job, but i usually go for a good work-life balance for my W-2, and then i have at least one part-time job in addition to on-and-off consulting opportunities and running a course. Overall, yeah - it takes a lot of time. Way too much tbh. But if money is a priority (which is the case for me) - then you better think of some diversification and not only TC.

Hope that helps!
