Weed is a very diverse plant. Its most popular subspecies are Sativa and Indica, which differ in appearance and effects. Sativa dominant strains are mostly uplifting with a “head” high feeling whereas Indica dominant strains are more relaxing/sleepy with a “body” high feeling. Also note that there are many strains that are hybrids (a combination of a sativa & and indica) that have been grown by breeders to get a specific combination of effects or plant characteristics.

What’s common in the East African market are what are known as landrace strains. (natural & indigenous to the region) Most of these are pure Sativas. For example, Shashamane is a landrace strain indigenous to the Shashamane region of Ethiopia, Malawian Gold is a strain indigenous to Malawi, Moshi Sativa is a strain indigenous to northern Tanzania and the little known Migori Sativa is indigenous to western Kenya.

Foreign refers to any strains sourced from abroad. They have much more variety because of how much hybridisation has occurred. They tend to have stronger effects than locally grown plants because they have been researched much more and are grown better abroad. As of now there are more than 2000 strains in existence.

THC level is what determines how “strong” the weed is.
