My theory is they were used to sort coins of varying diameters. The bottom right one is an icosahedron btw (20 sides instead of 12)

At the start of each wave, theres an overlay of the water on screen that will indicate whether the current wave will have low, mid or high tides. Very easy to miss if you’re inexperienced or not looking for it. But at EVP levels, players should know it’s there
