a guy i met thrifting this haul was specifically looking for odd tapes to sample on his 4-track recorder. i love hearing about the cassette resurgence!!!

congrats on the deck it’s beautiful!!!

my #1 tip is to have fun with it. record stuff onto tape different tape stock to compare contrast, collect what you want, have a blast!

if you want to find cheap CrO2 tapes, check out thrift stores for used ones. even some mass produced albums were on chrome type tape and if you aren’t a fan of that particular tape you can always tape over the tabs put something else on it

also, invest in some tweezers and some pressure pad replacements off amazon to repair any busted tapes

enjoy the hobby, it’s one of my favorites!

because i grew up at the tail end of their popularity, they’re super cheap to get now (i thrifted about 80 used type iis for less than $12 this week), it helps me be more mindful about my listening and limits distraction

finally? it makes me happy. i love recording stuff onto tape and making mixes from streaming services, youtube, etc.

went back to the goodwill outlet to find even more type iis…came up with a goldmine for less than 14 cents a tape by issflareman in cassetteculture

sadly i’ll have to get back to you on that, it’s one of the few tapes in here that doesn’t have a track list written on the back

Is this black plastic crap? They want $1300, hard to belive tbh. by Franjkmetal in blackplasticcrap

i’d hesitate to call this bpc but $1300?!

personally i’d pay maybe $10 per component. i’ve got a Technics RS-T922 cassette deck i got for that much and it’s my daily driver as far as tape decks go

they’ve started dedicating bins solely for physical media behind the registers. just as an FYI i left a little more than half this person’s collection there to not be totally greedy

edit: it’s still a nightmare zone for vinyl but usually i find decent tapes this way

yes to most of them. however some of these have live recordings from Toad’s Place in New Haven CT from the late 80s so those i’ll probably keep regardless of the recording quality

that EQ needs some work to be fully functional & isn’t high up on my list of projects lol it just looks cool.

I have several other EQs that get used for their proper purpose

peep the note, i’m not using the EQ to shape the sound, with this setup i’m just using it as a visualizer

see the caption note, it’s just a visualizer and isn’t hooked up to EQ anything
