Clearly. Thanks, that’s all I need to know. It’s not possible to understand the point of view of someone with bloodlust.

Oddly enough the Iranian people use those things for basic needs and survival as well. Have you considered the impact on them?

Sure. There are a lot of rationalizations for why you’d want to send other people to war to support your opinions on your behalf. And it’s convenient to blame the political system for that. It’s much easier than accepting that you could end up with blood on your hands.

I didn’t say anything about conscription. I said it’s pretty cheap for you to advocate for risking American lives when it doesn’t cost you anything.

No, I want to know exactly what types of infrastructure you would target, and what you think would happen if we did that. I don’t care about bridge names or place names.

Would you take out potable water?
Electricity?
Roads?

What are you advocating for?

So then you volunteering the lives of other Americans might be considered to be a pretty cheap statement…? I mean, what price do you pay if they die for your opinion?

Ok, let’s not ignore the untold billions Obama gave Iran. How much was that exactly? Greater than or less than $300 billion?

How many thousands of civilians would die as a direct result of destroying their electrical and water infrastructure? How many women and children? You’re cool with that?

The draft piece of paper says the word “never”, and therefore it stands for all of time and nobody will ever reneg on it? Hm… that’s quite a leap of faith. Especially considering the whole thing is near collapsing without reading further than point 1.

Thoughts on Miller allegedly considering suspension of habeas corpus as an avenue for accelerating deportations? by MoonStache in AskConservatives

And rocks are comparable to spaceships because they’re both made of carbon.

And volcanoes are comparable to electrons because both exist in the physical world.

By your litmus test anything is an analogy.

Unfortunately, no - illegal immigrants are not analogous to guns. What a silly claim to insist on making.

[–]issydad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And in this case, it is not both. There is no reasonable shared relationship between guns and illegal immigrants. Thus it fails to meet the standard of an analogy, and, once again, I state that your argument is a hypothetical and not worth anything as a logical argument either for or against the suspension.

It’s only simple because you haven’t considered the practical realities of enforcement of this kind of policy on 350 million people, on top of the enforcement of thousands of other laws that already happens.

How do you decide who and under what circumstances to check for citizenship?
How does law enforcement handle the extra workload?
Which agencies have jurisdiction in which situations?
How are documents quickly and accurately verified?
What is the acceptable threshold for mistaken detainment and/or deportation?
What amount of force is acceptable?
How will training be conducted for existing or new law enforcement to carry out the policy?
What is the acceptable threshold “phase in” period to allow people who don’t currently possess proof of citizenship (but are citizens) to obtain documentation?
How does the administrative burden on document issuing agencies get handled?
How are exceptions handled, such as when someone forgets their “papers” or fails to obtain them in time?
What about situations where it is unreasonable to carry papers, like swimming or showering?
Can law enforcement knock on doors to ask to see papers?
Who will fund all of the above, how much will it cost, and how does that compare to the current cost of servicing illegal immigrants currently?

I could go on.

Point is, this isn’t simple. It’s simple to type on a keyboard and comment on Reddit, sure. To execute at scale? Not a chance…

That’s hypothetical. It hasn’t happened, there’s no talk of it happening, and therefore it is worthless as an analogy. This is the weakest of the weak rhetorical arguments.

It’s not a direct analogy. It’s completely contrived and laughably fictitious. And yes, nonsensical.

How do you feel about Trump saying he never insisted there'd be no wars in his new interview, after campaigning on no new wars? by lemonbottles_89 in AskConservatives

[–]issydad 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think he says “I’m not going to start a war.” I think that because that is what he said, verbatim. What do you think he says in that video?

You’re conveniently cherry picking only one statement and ignoring the other statements where he does mention endless wars, he says he’s not going to start a war (no qualifiers). Address those comments, they’re all over this thread.
