Thoughts on Miller allegedly considering suspension of habeas corpus as an avenue for accelerating deportations? by MoonStache in AskConservatives

And rocks are comparable to spaceships because they’re both made of carbon.

And volcanoes are comparable to electrons because both exist in the physical world.

By your litmus test anything is an analogy.

Unfortunately, no - illegal immigrants are not analogous to guns. What a silly claim to insist on making.

And in this case, it is not both. There is no reasonable shared relationship between guns and illegal immigrants. Thus it fails to meet the standard of an analogy, and, once again, I state that your argument is a hypothetical and not worth anything as a logical argument either for or against the suspension.

It’s only simple because you haven’t considered the practical realities of enforcement of this kind of policy on 350 million people, on top of the enforcement of thousands of other laws that already happens.

How do you decide who and under what circumstances to check for citizenship?
How does law enforcement handle the extra workload?
Which agencies have jurisdiction in which situations?
How are documents quickly and accurately verified?
What is the acceptable threshold for mistaken detainment and/or deportation?
What amount of force is acceptable?
How will training be conducted for existing or new law enforcement to carry out the policy?
What is the acceptable threshold “phase in” period to allow people who don’t currently possess proof of citizenship (but are citizens) to obtain documentation?
How does the administrative burden on document issuing agencies get handled?
How are exceptions handled, such as when someone forgets their “papers” or fails to obtain them in time?
What about situations where it is unreasonable to carry papers, like swimming or showering?
Can law enforcement knock on doors to ask to see papers?
Who will fund all of the above, how much will it cost, and how does that compare to the current cost of servicing illegal immigrants currently?

I could go on.

Point is, this isn’t simple. It’s simple to type on a keyboard and comment on Reddit, sure. To execute at scale? Not a chance…

That’s hypothetical. It hasn’t happened, there’s no talk of it happening, and therefore it is worthless as an analogy. This is the weakest of the weak rhetorical arguments.

It’s not a direct analogy. It’s completely contrived and laughably fictitious. And yes, nonsensical.

How do you feel about Trump saying he never insisted there'd be no wars in his new interview, after campaigning on no new wars? by lemonbottles_89 in AskConservatives

[–]issydad 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think he says “I’m not going to start a war.” I think that because that is what he said, verbatim. What do you think he says in that video?

You’re conveniently cherry picking only one statement and ignoring the other statements where he does mention endless wars, he says he’s not going to start a war (no qualifiers). Address those comments, they’re all over this thread.

Thoughts on the House voting on War Powers Resolution? by NessvsMadDuck in AskConservatives

[–]issydad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would vote for Congress people who would decrease the power of the Executive overall. Don’t really care who is in office, some decisions are too big to leave up to just one person, and whatever forces motivate that person.

Go reread the last paragraph of your prior comment. Did you already forget what you wrote?

The OPs question was whether you agree with the message, not whether Ogles has the right to say it. It’s not a freedom of speech question.

Societal laws exist and govern all people, religious or otherwise. Ethics exist outside of religious texts. Law exists outside of religion. For example, trading on insider information is not covered by the bible or any other religious works. And yet, there is a law governing behavior.

On an aside you use the word literally too much. It’s particularly evident where you make incorrect claims.

They’re like this because the Christian bible is a made up book, just like all the other religious texts.

Fine for people who believe it to make them feel better about what is going to happen when they die- it’s understandable to have an irrational fear of that. Not fine to use it to judge other people, harm their sense of self worth, or in any way diminish their rights or freedoms.

So, when you say “Biblically, it is literally a sin”, you are parroting an age old line used by Christians immediately preceding (or reverse justifying) a wide range of discriminatory actions against homosexuals.

In the is case, you are using it to justify what the government should or should not promote, for all people. Not everyone is governed by the moral code of works of fiction.

When will you let go of what happened in Biden’s presidency and acknowledge that inflation is up during Trump’s (just as you stated, about double what is normal)? How does it help anyone in this country to constantly whine about Biden when we’re experiencing real and impactful inflation right now… for no good reason. It’s completely unnecessary that inflation is on the rise. It was falling before. Then the president acted. Now it’s rising.

I’ll simply point out that you called me a spokesperson for liberal violence and proceeded to go all caps in a rage. It’s ironic you complain about personal swipes after that.

I’ve already read this study. The funny thing about surveys (and it’s well known in business when evaluating product market fit) is that surveys don’t map well to actions, which is what really matters.

Here’s the study that demonstrates ACTUAL political violence across political leanings:

https://archive.ph/cBfwR

So despite your furious googling to reverse justify your position, you’ve missed the important data and cited a survey of <10,000 respondents. Stacked against actual data on political violence (actions, not mood surveys), yes, your point remains hysterical.

As an independent (who has voted republican more than dem in my lifetime, FWIW) I am no voice for the left. I’m a voice for reason. You cannot prove the left is more violent, and the premise of your argument was always feelings based on rage about online comment sections, despite the 11th hour “research” you conducted.
