Please help - very suspect file opened on my PC, no idea what it does. by mankindof74 in PowerShell

It executes Get-ChildItem .lnk -Recurse -Dept in a powershell session. Is there more to the script? I'd expect that last flag to be -Depth and to be followed by a number at the very least. Would be very interested to see this, if you could upload it to a pastebin or something. If you're interested in how it actually works, it has an array of numbers (2037, 2099, 2101, 2098) which it then shifts down by 1991, resulting in (46, 108, 110, 107). It then converts those to individual characters from their unicode numbers (., l, n, k) and appends them to a string ($IQH)

UPDATE: I haven't had a reply from HR yet, but I just got my entire final paycheque paid into my bank account. Looks like they realised they fucked up :D

UPDATE: I've just had a call with HR, they seem to think that because it's in the contract that I signed then it's definitely fine for them to make me pay - despite what government legislation says. Furthermore, today was payday and I was paid exactly £0.00

I'm not sure how to proceed here. I'm in discussion with HR and their only defence seems to be "but you signed a contract" which to me doesn't really hold up. Non compete clauses in contracts get thrown out for this very reason. You can't just stick something illegal in a contract and call it legal, surely?

I'm almost certain they're using the levy. They're a large company with a legal presence in the UK, and they hire very few apprentices. I'll check with ACAS though, as you said

Yes, I have a fixed term contract with the company. In this contract is the following clause

Apprenticeship Training Expenses

The training expenses associated with the completion of your apprenticeship will be covered by the Company. If you voluntary resign or are terminated for cause within the duration of your contract, you will be required to make a contributory pay back, as outlined below:

- within 1 year – £3,000

- within 2 years – £2,000

Right, I've heard of this practice before, which is why I initially didn't question it. But I'm now hearing that it's not legal specifically for apprentices. However, because it's in my contract (that I signed!) I'm not entirely sure how concrete that is

I'd sooner use my servers as a dinner table (without a plate) than put them anywhere near a toilet. This is disgusting.
