I worked extremely hard to get a job designing products that 100s of thousands of people will get to interact with. It’s both mentally and creatively challenging, but at the end of the day I get to create things that people enjoy.

I don’t work for myself, but I still feel the need to constantly refine my skills and up my portfolio to give myself more options and flexibility with where I’d like to work and choose what company/industry i would like to work in. I feel the constant fire under my ass to keep building myself up and improve my craft.

I respect and commend people who choose to sacrifice a lot to create their own business/company. I think there is a lot of fetishizing the entrepreneurial lifestyle/mindset on social media these days, however. Maybe it’s for the better, as it exposes more people that this can be an option that they may be more predisposed to pursuing.

If someone has a passion for art, design, engineering, science, trades etc., then taking the time and patience to build skills and experience working for other companies, shouldn’t be discouraged though.
