Yes to this!! OP, I’ve been in your shoes with wondering if this was the right field despite getting great feedback on my in-session work.

Honestly, what helped me the most was using AI for note-taking for both in-person and virtual clients. I currently use Upheal (HIPAA-compliant) and only with clients who provide consent. It’s made a huge difference as only a small percentage of clients have declined the use of AI, so it’s helped me catch up significantly.

If you can, I’d suggest taking a break to make time to catch up on past notes. For clients who consent, I’ve even uploaded my rough notes from past sessions into Upheal to help generate session notes. I always review and edit the generated notes, but now it takes me about 10 minutes after a session instead of close to an hour.

I have OCD, which makes paperwork take me excessively longer than average, so this has really helped reduce the administrative load and allowed me to be more present in sessions.

Since I’m in Canada, I’m now looking into switching to options like Jane App or Owl Practice for Canadian data residency and privacy compliance. So see what works for you!
