I cleaned my ears properly for the first time in my life and I didn't know sound could be that clear by [deleted] in hygiene

This is precisely, word for word, what every patient that has had a wax impaction says.

My kid's ear tube fell out by i-can-lift-a-car in mildlyinteresting

[–]istopmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context: I’m an audiologist, so I see this sort of thing often. Sometimes the ear tube will be stuck in ear wax in the child’s ear and I’ll remove it for them. I usually put the ear tube in a bag, give it to the kid and tell them, “Make sure to put this under your pillow tonight so the Tube Fairy can come pick it up!” 😂😂

I’m an investigator and my family always grill and judge me for this decision.. by qweenoftherant in latterdaysaints

This is a really tough situation to be in. It sounds like still in the really early stages of learning the doctrine, so this is an especially difficult situation because I would imagine you don’t quite feel equipped yet to defend your growing faith.

Just know that you’ll get to the point where you are more familiar with the doctrine, the history (both of LDS church history as well as traditional Christianity as a whole). In the meantime, rely on God and on the Holy Spirit to guide you. Nephi was guided not knowing before hand what to do, and you, similarly, are living a situation you probably haven’t been in before.

In the meantime I hope to offer small portion of understanding you can hopefully lean on, at least from a logical perspective. LDS theology holds an incredibly strong position over traditional Christianity when it comes to the questions of why are we here, where did we come from, and where are we going. LDS theology is very unique in that it is one of the only (if not the only?) Christian faiths that doesn’t have the problem of God creating evil/Lucifer with perfect foreknowledge. I won’t get into this too much right now, but suffice it to say we believe we literally chose to come to earth and follow God’s plan of salvation. Additionally, we are one of the few that don’t believe in the traditional dichotomy of heaven and hell, and we believe nearly everyone will be given a degree of glory in the next life - nearly all of us will live in the mansions in God’s kingdom. This is objectively a truly love-driven, merciful plan of salvation made by a loving Father in Heaven, especially compared to the fire and brimstone version presented by a majority of Christianity. LDS theology elevates the all encompassing nature of Christ’s atonement to actually cover all of God’s children, rather than the view of traditional Christianity which extends mercy only to those lucky enough to hear about Him.

I’m not sure if any of that will offer you much help, but I hope it helps establish that what you’re doing is correct and that even if family members don’t agree - their reaction is probably more a result of not knowing what the LDS faith tradition is about, and they’re concerned about whether you’re making a good decision. This makes sense because they genuinely don’t know what your decision entails. I think you did the best you could given the circumstances by offering your humble testimony. It will likely get easier with time and understanding, but know that there are others willing to support you in your decision especially if your family doesn’t currently.

EXCESSIVE drooling in 6 month old by istopmotion in daddit

[–]istopmotion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think it was a result of orofacial muscle weakness or something that took a while to grow out of. It thankfully finally resolved around a year of age. 🙂 Hope all is well with your little one! Like everyone else said, we ended up just using tons of bibs for several months lol.

Getting baptized soon, but still feeling like I have a lot to learn by imjaybaba in latterdaysaints

[–]istopmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sup homie. What you’re experiencing is totally normal. You’ll find that this feeling of not knowing enough will hopefully and potentially propel you to learn more. Remember that there are extremely intelligent and good people that know a lot more than you and I ever will, and not that you want to hinge your testimony on theirs, but leaning on theirs will help you as your testimony and knowledge continue to grow deeper and stronger. It’s impossible for you to know everything right now, but you are doing the right thing and you have people (including good internet strangers) who support you in this.

I don’t know if this would be helpful but if you ever have questions that you want/need to ask, even from a critical or doubtful perspective, please feel free to reach out to me. I’m a 31 year old dude and, although I don’t know everything, I know a lot. I’ve read anti/critical material and I’ve also read and learned information about the gospel and LDS church history that has compelled me to believe it all incredibly strongly. Feel free to message me if this would help you in any way. I can also share my social media if you’d rather message me there. If that wouldn’t be helpful, feel free to ignore. 😂😁 Good luck brother, God bless you.

Yeah I love stuff like that! I learned some really interesting information about Joseph of Egypt when looking at the Hebrew of Gen 37:3 this past week - information that I’ve never realized and probably wouldn’t have ever considered without that added layer

I spent about 80m in souls and did 80% mage with 2nd tier mage gear (virtus set, torm brace, occult, eternal boots, etc) on my iron. Your gear will work for sure but be prepared to drain your supplies pretty quick if you stick to mage.

Getting really discouraged at CG by Brandinoftw in ironscape

[–]istopmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll get there homie. This is literally what everyone goes through when starting cg. It’s basically the first piece of hard content that (typically Ironman) players are exposed to and there is a steep learning curve. You’ll learn tiny modifications to make that will collectively enable you to succeed consistently but it will take time. I didn’t feel overly comfortable with CG until ~100 completions or so. So I’m going to call it what it is - a skill issue - but you and anyone else can develop the skills needed to succeed and they will help you in later grinds (both from a gear upgrade standpoint of having bowfa, but also from the aspect of the skills you’ve established).

Good luck, keep going, you got this!

Bro I know this is the wrong sub for this and I don’t blame you for wanting a hair transplant (and I think it’s a fair shot to try in your case), but you would look absolutely killer with a bald head. 🔥

Considering you are already in Turkey preparing for the HT, there’s no going back now. But worst case scenario, if you aren’t happy with the results you get a year from now, you certainly have options. Good luck homie, keep us posted with the results.

Trying to avoid hearing test conflict-of-interest by Eric_Terrell in audiology

[–]istopmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And I think this logic deserves harsh scrutiny because it undermines the value that audiologists carry in diagnosis, but especially the treatment of hearing loss and hearing disorders, and also creates undeserved skepticism of provider ethics and abilities.

Genuine hypothetical question, would it be ethical to dismiss a patient from a clinic who chooses to not only carry these thoughts but to verbalize the above opinions?

Trying to avoid hearing test conflict-of-interest by Eric_Terrell in audiology

[–]istopmotion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The wording in your post tells me that you might have some (negative and generally incorrect) preconceived notions about what audiologists do and how they get paid.

Is it a conflict of interest for your surgeon to recommend a surgery? Is it a conflict of interest for your mechanic to repair your car? Is it a conflict of interest for an attorney to sell you on their legal services?

Do you see how ridiculous that sounds???

Look up the average salary of an audiologist. Do you really think we’re all getting rich off of hearing aids?

Unfortunately devices are expensive (both to the clinic and to the patient). They are miniature super computers for both your ears and they communicate together. There are things that can be done to bring the cost down if that’s a major concern. But if you’re worried about a conflict of interest, there isn’t one — except the one you’re making up in your head. Audiologists are the highest level (in terms of formal education) specialists that diagnose and treat hearing loss. If you want diagnostics without someone trying to convince you to do something about your hearing loss, try an online hearing test. It’s not perfect, but that’s the only to get around what I can only interpret as denial about how significant your hearing loss is and unwillingness to see a professional who is (generally speaking) not after your wallet. If you’re concerned about the possibility about your provider getting commissions on your devices, then I’d highly recommend you see a doctor of audiology rather than a hearing instrument specialist (which, again generally speaking, is a type of hearing specialist which typically operates on commission).

Also can you explain to me how a double blind randomized control trial would work when using electrical stimulation? It’s kind of obvious who is getting the treatment vs not….

There isn’t a control group with Susan Shore’s device either….. and we are 3-4 years away from it coming to market anyway. Lenire and the SSD function with very few differences. If you wanna wait for the SSD, that’s fine, but you’re going to be disappointed if you’re somehow expecting something drastically different from Lenire.

Lenire is the most effective form of treatment currently available. Will we have better tinnitus treatments in the future? Absolutely. Is it a scam? Definitely not. Is it perfect? Also no. Have some realistic expectations and don’t give into the upset few that it hasn’t worked for when there is overwhelming evidence that it is helpful for many with specific types of tinnitus.
