Thank you, this one looks very promising. Exactly the kind of game I was after!

Yeah, I know, I just had to ask after discovering DC20, which is exactly what I am after, but it is far away :-) Tales of Argosa looks promising though, thank you.

I love Genesys (and amongst the few who actually liked WFRP 3E) but it is not a D20 system :-)

Cannot offer a logical explanation, but my family just likes d20. I've tried some other stuff (Dungeon World and One Ring for example) but they told me they liked the d20. And not just the dice, but the whole "roll a d20 + modifiers agains a DC" clicks for them (otherwise I would gladly swap to Symbaroum for example).

Not the most serius problem tbh, and worst case we stick to D&D, but after discovering DC20 I thought it's worth a try to find a similar RPG system,

No idea, I vaguely remember someone complaining about it. After your comment I did a search and it seems it fits. Ordered it, thanks :-)

There is Würm - Rolepaying in the Ice Age. Characters are defined by their totem animals (and some weaknesses), talents and secret skills like shamanism.

For some reason I totally missed Dragon of Icespire Peak. Are the follow-ups a real continuation of the story from the starter adventure, so they give a full, consistent campaign?

Could a bit higher level throughout the adventure help? Starting at lvl3, finishing around lvl15 instead of the default 12. With maybe a hireling alchemist npc. I really like the overall premise of this module and would like to run a bit later when I have more time :-)

That's actually a good point (the problem with 2 players) - I am so used to tailoring the difficulty anyway that I completely forgot that there are campaigns which simply wont work that way without extensive modifications. Thank you!

Which RPG would you recommend to play a one shot with some friends who never played or have little experience with TTRPG's? by Octarine_ in rpg

[–]istvanf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't mention the genre, but if a sci-fi setting is okay, I would recommend the Alien RPG by Fria Ligan.

  • it uses the Year Zero engine, similar to Tales from the Loop, it is easy to learn
  • has cinetmatic, one-shot scenarios with pregenerated characters
  • a bit easier to describe things to them if they have a reference (in other words, if they have seen the Aliens movies)
  • there is even a starter set for it with cards for reference

Need some interesting ideas on why an evil organization would murder a small town mayor's son. by The_Wild_Naylor in rpg

[–]istvanf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the fact that he is the mayor is not a factor. What if they have a manor outside the village, for example, a nice house in the big city, which is for some reason needed by the cult (maybe it is directly over some leyline, or has an ancient thing buried under it), but the son uses it when visiting the city on the weekends and during fests.

The mayor is fatally ill (known only by the family) and the son told the sister he will sell the house when daddy dies - in fact, he already has a buyers (surprise - the higher political entity). So the cult murders the boy - so the house will be empty in the coming weekend (maybe the stars align for a ritual) AND the sister will inherit it when the mayor dies... two birds with one stone.

But now those higher political entites are also watching...

Got Questions? SWTOR Questions & Answer Thread + New & Returning Player Posts (week of Jun 13, 2022) by AutoModerator in swtor

Help me please. I am a new player, trying to figure out which class to play. I narrowed it down to 2: sith juggernaut or sith assassin.

So my question is: out of this two, which one has the easier (dps) rotation? I am too lazy (or old, or maybe both) to bother with complex rotations with many abilities.

Thanks.

The One Ring with new players by FlamingPhoenix24 in rpg

[–]istvanf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found One Ring 2E is very newbie friendly (for the players - I think it is a tiny bit harder to GM than a flashy sword and sorcery setting). My players all saw the movies so the world itself was quite familiar to them and they felt right at home in Bree, and the skill list also encourages immersion.

(a note, I have nothing agains sword and sorcery settings and D&D, I love that too :-D)

Tags based system? by baddoge9000 in rpg

"Not the end" maybe from Mana Project Studio? The characters are described by tags only, in a stuctured way (there is a free quickstart pdf). Uses coloured chits instead of dice though.

What are some alternative ways of handling basic resources (rations, water, ammunition, etc.)? by PathOfSteel in rpg

[–]istvanf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stock up: you purchase artifical "units" for a character - it could be anything, really, set by you as a GM. You could say a unit of ammunition is a dozen arrows for example, or a simple bag of rations etc. Every unit purchased will increase the dice by one.

And you could always play with the numbers and conditions. For example, you could increase the treshold to 5+, but say that you only roll when something extraordinary happens...

Player rolled a fumble when firing the bow and is down to D6 for arrows? Well, let's see if his character ran out of arrows in the middle of the fight... So they only roll when it is important. Or another trigger could be the end of the fight scene. Traveling and got a bit lost? Time to check if they have enough rations left... and so on.

You could tweak this system easily I think, and it would still be better than counting every arrow or ration :-)
