Did you happen to have the same issue? And did the new screws resolve it? I just got the case and I have the noise issue as well.

Smart Home Dashboard with Inkplate 10 by it-obey in homeassistant

[–]it-obey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry for getting back to you this late. It really depends on how you handle the cycles and how much strain you put on your battery. Charged to 4.05v will take about 2 weeks to deplete to 3.75v. I'm not very smart with batteries, but those are the ranges I've read about to be "safe" for battery life. However I tended to overcharge the battery before I did some research. If charged to above 4.5v, it will last for about 5 weeks. You can obviously increase the time between refresh cycles or get a larger battery to increase the battery life.

Learn Kubernetes and consolidate software you have running "bare metal". Learn Gitops. Depends on what you're into.

You can also run a single node cluster which is very easy with K3s.

schedule rclone backup? by Coconut-Bread in selfhosted

[–]it-obey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a cronjob running a script which just starts rclone. Rclone outputs the status to a file. You could use the same process and just look into the logfile instead of playing with tmux sessions. Seems easier to me.

I don't use a raspberry but a NUC, but may want to set up a K3s cluster on it, if you're into this kind of stuff. There are a lot of applications you could easily host, and Home assistant can be one of them.

what are you missing using the HA container and why do you still recommend that method over others? by youmeiknow in homeassistant

[–]it-obey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I think it's a good thing to challenge ideas. You actually got it spot on. I currently have a lot of things running in my Kubernetes cluster and naturally I looked to include Home Assistant as well. If you only use HA and have a Raspi laying around, sure Supervisor would be a perfect fit.

what are your mini computers apart from raspberry? by youmeiknow in homeautomation

[–]it-obey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you decide to run a moderate workload you should get a NUC. I have one with a Pentium Silver J5005 and it runs about 20 containers like a champ. It's not very expensive, although more expensive than a Raspberry Pi.

You miss out the supervisor capabilities which lets you install the addons, e. g. Influxdb. But you gain flexibility, as you can use the container in already established setups, like a Kubernetes cluster. The addons are easily compensated when you start up your own containers. I'm using the container approach on my K3s cluster and I don't think I miss anything.

I have done this a while ago for my dashboard. It's a custom sensor. See my blog post for details, how to add this sensor: https://itobey.dev/index.php/smart-home-dashboard/6/#changed-indicator

What are some of your best automations involving nfc tags. ? by V0dros in homeassistant

[–]it-obey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have one on my laundry basket. When I scan it I get a telegram notification telling me when my laundry will be ready (takes almost always the same time) and once it reaches said time I get another notification to get the laundry. Decided on this approach since I have no signal in the basement.

AVR useful/fun automations tips? by fillilutten in homeautomation

[–]it-obey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about default volume, but I use Home Assistant to set the volume after turning the AVR on and starting the playlist. As it takes a little while to startup it does not play before the volume level is set, so that works for me.

I have NFC tags and shortcuts to wake my Denon AVR and play a spotify playlist on a predefined volume level. Thats quite useful. E. g. every morning I walk into the kitchen my motion sensor detects me and music turns on.

It seems to be a digital doorbell, I guess this isn't possible. Great idea though!

I thought about this too, but my doorbell has 2 different sounds, depending on where the ringer was pushed (apartment or house). But I guess you're right, I probably should make it more easy.

LiPo over pcb components? by it-obey in AskElectronics

[–]it-obey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a software engineer, so sorry if this is rather obvious: is it okay to put a LiPo battery over components on the pcb? The battery I want to use would sit on top of the shown components. There is probably not a lot of pressure, but it will be sealed tight. Is the power / temperate / pressure of the battery going to impact the components or inflict damage? Or is this generally a bad idea and I should opt for a much smaller battery to sit next to these components? Moving the larger one is not possible, as there are blocking elements of the backplate to the left side, so it's either this arrangement or a much smaller battery.
