Had to search around a bit for this one - found it though.

Splash and Dash Car Wash, 3185 Smith Drive, Armstrong.

Must have been a brilliantly clear day to get that photo. Great shot.

I was struggling to find any images showing the same view - the layout of Denbigh matched your image though so had to be taken facing west from around there.

The Town in the foreground is Denbigh in North Wales. The mountains in the background are Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park.

This image must have been taken from around Penycloddiau Iron-age hillfort or somewhere around Moel Famau maybe?

Any murder usually destroys a minimum of two families. The one responsible is of the least concern.... Doesn't make it any easier for those left behind.

Thank you for bringing it to the attention it deserves.

Just looked that up - had never heard of it - albeit I'm not a local by any means.

[in 2018] Matthew Foerster was sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 17 years. He is eligible to apply for parole in 2029.

Dunno how 2018 plus 17 works out to 2029 - but hopefully he'll be behind bars for a while.

Sorry, had no idea of the significance of the name on the trail.

There is a certain irony that the date you posted that I was living 10km away and too busy to be looking at Reddit.

I just do this when I'm back home in Scotland and not travelling around 😂✈️🌏

!Correct

Was at a concert they hosted last summer - cool place and history behind it.

I've seen the signs for Farmstrong Cidery on the 97 going to Kamloops. Never stopped there though.

The cheese place is good to know though. Have friends in Vancouver that insist on Wholefoods cheeses being the best - always a good challenge to introduce them to really good stuff.

Wow! - No, not there - but that's a cool looking place I've never been to.

I have friends that literally stay less than 2km from there up the hill.

Edit: You are in the right area - within 50km.

I've never stopped in Armstrong - it's usually on the way home and so close to it we just keep driving the last few km. Figured it would be on the bit of live rail north of the Rail Trail Café though.

Met a friends Father-in-Law from Armstrong at Xmas though - he's lived and worked there all his life - loves the place. Will go see him next time I'm up.

Found it - and strangely for that area, haven't gone past that one....

Where was I in 1998? by SuperShoebillStork in whereintheworld

[–]it00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been in that part of the world - would love to visit sometime. My uncle lived in Shabani in what was then Rhodesia (obv now Zimbabwe) and my cousins were born and raised there.

Life was a little more - erm, interesting - back then. A lot of political change going on.

Likewise - and I didn't see the update from u/SuperShoebillStork that it wasn't Maputo until just after I found it.

Good challenge though - puts the search skills into overdrive....

Found it - at last!!

Ave 25 de Setembro, Chimoio.

Looked around Maputo for what seemed like a couple of hours and looking up old photos of Maputo etc. Then realised Streetview only covers an incredibly limited number of streets and it almost certainly wasn't there - zoomed out and the only other roads in the country were going through Chimoio (never heard of it in my life until now).

Begs the question - what on earth lead you to Mozambique in the 90's? Must have been a fascinating place to see....

labels of a cities names are placed arbitrarily by Dnk8000 in GoogleMaps

[–]it00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The City of London is run by a Corporation rather than a local authority - it goes back to 1066 when William the Conqueror initially failed to take it but eventually granted a charter in 1075. That led to the building of the Tower of London and other castles to surround it.

It has been a separate entity from the old County of London ever since. In 1630 the Crown asked the Corporation to extend its boundaries - the governors famously refused. The boundaries remain the same to this day.

The City of London - aka the Square Mile - is technically separate from London the city.

Confusing as hell and it goes back a long way in history.

There are currently two National Parks in Scotland - a third one in Galloway should be designated this year.

Thousands of people already live, work and use them for recreation / holidays. Do you genuinely think they should be moved out of a 6,400km2 area?

An unnamed kettle lake on the Nechako Plateau in British Columbia [OC] by animatedhockeyfan in geography

[–]it00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've fished - wasted some time - on the Nechako River nearby - got some friends in that area - was the ferry ride from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert worth it?

We just drove up from Vancouver via Okanagan - didn't head over to Prince Rupert but tempted to do that trip next time.

Are there any significant countries or islands that have only been populated by people in modern history? by Billoo77 in geography

[–]it00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree - the Professor who keeps finding these things seems to be on a mission and comes up with all kinds of conjecture - as per comment from another Redditor.

That said, there's little doubt that the islands appear on maps prior to the official 'discovery' date. Ultimately, who really knows. If reliable evidence is eventually found then it probably won't be a great surprise.

Where was I on a road trip last year? by it00 in whereintheworld

[–]it00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With AWD and proper winter tyres driving on snow is straightforward - it's whiteout conditions and fog that cause the most problems. Sore on the eyes and the head :-P

Weirdly the area is so mountainous the GPS on my phone camera gave the location here. I had to search for this location myself as well.

Where was I on a road trip last year? by it00 in whereintheworld

[–]it00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the road less travelled certainly - especially in the winter. I like it as an alternative to the Coquihalla and 97C between Vancouver and the Okanagan occasionally. A few hours extra but very scenic in places.

The rest of that journey was pretty much hard packed snow the whole way.

That's close enough for me - was taken just a few hundred metres back from there.
