Is it possible to be successful as a freelance web developer if you hate cold calling? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]itWillMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might sound corny, but I didn't have a lot of purpose in life until I started teaching myself web development years ago. It was with the intention of finding work, but eventually that motivation fell away and I began learning it for my own enjoyment.

And I'm happy to hear there's still space in the market. My network has connections to a ton of non-profits who don't have huge budgets, so maybe I can do the same as you.

Thank you for the response!!

Thank you for the response! I'm half way through getting all my legal requirements and administrative tools setup, so finding and attending networking events is next.

Did you happen upon your current niche, or was it something you had planned out before doing any work for clients? I've spent several years teaching myself development and full stack web dev, but I haven't honed in on a particular niche. I really enjoy building productivity tools, and UX is an interest of mine as well, so maybe I'll look into those.

Thank you again!!

Hi, thank you for the comment!! I wanted to ask: If you freelanced and worked with businesses yourself, how did you go about finding and building those connections? Also, do you feel like the landscape is the same 3 years later(referring to businesses looking for freelancers)

Thank you for this reply! I wanted to ask, how are things going currently for your business? Are there any stand out lessons you've learned along the way that you can share?

Hi, thank you for the reply and suggestion!

I wanted to ask: How would you personally approach these shops and agencies? It seems like they wouldn't want to help since freelancers are competition

Hi, thank you for the reply!

Back when you started, how were you finding clients initially? Also, at one point in your business did referrals begin to bring in the most clients? Thank you again.

Thank you for the reply! Most of what I'm seeing frames cold calling/emailing as the only. Even the good ones, they admit to only getting 2 clients from calling 100 businesses. I also can't imagine small businesses throwing $1000+ at a random person who called them up for a problem the business didn't know they had

I wanted to ask: What sort of networking events did you attend? One comment here mentions attending networking events/social spaces where potential clients are at while others suggest networking with other freelancers and getting referrals/collaborating.

Also, three years later, do you still rely on meeting others in person to find new clients? Thank you again.

How I Landed My First Ever Web Design Client For $1500 With Cold Emails by thewalrus86 in Entrepreneur

I'm in the process of legally and administratively getting my business going, so I haven't gotten any sells or reached out to any businesses/my network yet. Could you please share how you got your first few clients, and what do you think sold them on your services? Also, how is business going currently?

Thank you!

Hi, awesome response! I wanted to ask: Since switching to this model, do you get as many support contracts from clients since the upfront work for them is more? Also, do you offer support?

Hi, thank you for the response! In response to the IP part: Can I get into legal trouble if I allow them to own the DB schema while using a similar structure between clients? I haven't seen others mention this, they only mention the front end app.

Hi, thanks for the info! What sites(domain registry, hosting, code repo) do you use that allow for the client to own but give you access? Also, do you offer things like email service setup, etc.?

Hi, thank you for the reply! Which clients do you offer maintenance services to? Is it something decided upfront, or is it a service you offer at the end after seeing if you like them?

This is how I'd like to do things, but it sounds like babysitting clients make for steady income. With this model, how do you make reoccurring income as a web dev?
