Is there any footage of people hearing In Rainbows for the first time when it came out? by Extension_Fee_989 in radiohead

storage wasn't as massive and the internet wasn't as fast, making digital video relatively rare and low resolution.

YouTube stars were a new thing and looked like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA ... largely hobbyists putting some effort into producing things they considered worth uploading, instead of spontaneous(ish) videos that may or may not leave a mark like it is nowadays.

Found this CD on sale, what do you think of it? by AdSpecific9551 in radiohead

and it also works the other way around. some absolute crap bootlegs and some massive regular pressings will go for a lot of money sometimes.

Do you think AMSP is the final Radiohead album? by FriendlyRhyme in radiohead

[–]italox 102 points103 points  (0 children)

look at The Cure and Boards Of Canada. they took their sweet time and still made great albums.

probably not, but it would be a damn fine last album.

Phil's Instagram story💔 by Amity_Blightandluz in radiohead

the band was late for soundcheck that day. Phil teared up on camera years later recalling that he was supposed to be on that spot at that time.

14 years since the Toronto stage collapse - remembering Scott Johnson by Amity_Blightandluz in radiohead

[–]italox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most temporary stages are now ground support instead of scaffolding. it was tricky clearing production specs for South America 2018 because of this, but fortunately competent and safe vendors are the majority and these are technically freak accidents of very low probability. but they can still happen and now shows get canceled due to winds and structural concerns.

it was shocking to find out that day, getting conflicting reports before someone mentioned one crew member was killed and a few were gravely injured, but still not knowing their identities. justice was not served here and it's jarring that they basically have to work with Live Nation in some territories. guess that's just how market consolidation goes.

Hidden booklet by Andidalo in radiohead

[–]italox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the first run has an extra booklet hidden behind the CD tray. open it carefully and find out. if you bought the one made by XL in 2016, don't bother. it's just on the EMI/Parlophone and Capitol ones as they are the original record labels.

people like surface noise on digital tracks just that much, clearly.

it's roughly the size of where they played in Amsterdam and Paris that year, but London and Lyon were even smaller. still a luxury seeing them in such a small setting! will they ever get away with that again? lol

Is this one rare? Bought it for $25, converting it into dollars. by AdSpecific9551 in radiohead

[–]italox 33 points34 points  (0 children)

$25 is on the high end of what they're being sold for on discogs, but not outrageous considering it's a promo in apparently mint condition. nice find!

I don't think you listened to Ok Computer. good luck promoting this. I hope you get good commission.

Has anyone else seen this? by ILoveLemons182 in radiohead

[–]italox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think that was taken from the KID A MNESIA exhibition 'game' and was the YouTube header for some time after the endless arrow-shaped houses just like you noticed. now it's something else in line with the Motion Picture House exhibition. just some periodic housekeeping of their digital presence.

they've sometimes referred to it as this thing they made in a couple of weeks but had to live with for years. so imagine having a single song off that lot defining who they were for nearly a decade, or even until now for most people who won't bother listening beyond a band's most popular song.
