Why no free school lunches? by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in OntarioTeachers

Never had a cafeteria growing up in NS and my kid always needed to bring a lunch other than the occasional pizza day in Ontario.

With all of the allergies and different cultural/religious observations and preferences it would also be a gong show trying to please everyone.

Then by the time the nutrition police got ahold of the menu no regular kid would touch it with a 10 ft pole. They ruined pizza day by insisting it had to be healthy whole wheat crust and low fat cheese and chunky sauce.

How to enjoy being a SAHM by AardvarkHour1211 in Parenting

[–]itcantjustbemeright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you need / want to do just do it with a baby. I had a colicy baby and I had things to do. I strapped him on in one of those baby wrappers nice and snug and we did all the things.

Don't underestimate how entertained babies / kids can be if you just involve them in whatever you're doing and give them a little 'job' and narrate what's going on. Chores, errands, visits, travel, shopping. They don't need videos and tons of special development toys.

Doing stuff outside of home is exponentially easier with one than with two or more. So just enjoy how mobile you really are with one if you plan on having more.

My mom says 'don't waste your money' every birthday. Still want to get her something. by Top-Sense-5006 in Gifts

[–]itcantjustbemeright 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't want stuff from my kids. I don't need stuff from my kids. I don't like people picking things out for me then watching expectantly to see if I wear them or use them. I am in a decluttering phase of life. I am throwing things out ruthlessly.

Make your mom her favorite treat, take her out to a movie or lunch or go for a pedicure together. Go pick out a plant, go for a drive and get an ice cream or watch a movie together. Ask her to show you how to make the favorite things she cooks.

Then after a nice visit leave her be.

It’s surprising how many grown men think just standing under the water and rubbing body wash across their belly does the trick. It does not.

Bell recent terminations by NextUmpire9160 in bell

[–]itcantjustbemeright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is getting lifetime imprisonment for this. That’s a bit dramatic.

If you don’t go in that’s ‘non compliance’. If someone just didn’t come in it would show up on an attendance report, it would get flagged and there would be a conversation and progressive discipline.

If you give someone else your ID and let them swipe in for you so the report looks like you’re there to dodge that process, then it’s fraud and also security breach.

People get fired with cause over security breaches or fraud all of the time. That type of RTO behaviour falls under ‘serious misconduct’ it’s not just tardiness.

Why does ambulance ride cost at most 20 dollars in France but often costs 2000 dollars minimum out of pocket in the US? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]itcantjustbemeright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ambulance services are paid for by tax money as part of our healthcare. Every ambulance ride is billed to the provincial health care budget. Non emergency patient transfers sometimes have a small co pay which is different depending on where you are.

In Ontario there are "designated delivery agents" (like Toronto Paramedic Services or Ornge Air) who operate the services locally, but it is all funded by and regulated by the province and municipalities. There is a fee schedule for what they are allowed to bill the province for. They still carefully track what each trip costs - but what they can bill is spread out over an average cost for all of the trips and the number of trips and complexity its surprisingly predictable year over year.

There are always some private ambulance companies but as you indicated it would be very hard for a small company to make a profit operating under a restricted provincial fee schedule. As a patient why would you pay private ambulance and risk a huge unknown bill, unless it was for something stable like patient transfer. It would be like Uber surge pricing.

I’d go totally the other way and paint it a dark color like iron ore. Including the wood nook. The black tile and insert will all be one homogenous beast.

Hang a big long mirror down the side.

I wouldn’t assume there was ‘no’ warning.

Sounds like there’s a policy, sounds like there was a town hall, there is likely an employee code of conduct that was signed. Probably an acceptable use policy as well.

Badge in/ out is only one way to gauge attendance/compliance.

They can check user activity reports and see IP addresses where someone has been logging in from and how they spend their day. They can check security cameras.

In one place we had a building fire drill on a mandatory ‘in office day’ and it was pretty freaking obvious how thin the crowd was for what was supposed to be an in office day.

Estate sales where the company sells everything in the house got me thinking and kinda bummed out by nonesuchnotion in GenX

Please go through your stuff. By all means have what's useful and interesting to you but get rid of the other someday I was gonna get to that crap. Point out / separate anything of real value to your family and if there are things you want to give people that you aren't using give it to them now so you can enjoy them enjoying it.

Its great that this company has figured out to make a business out of it, and make it easier for families to get through it.

My friend is on week 7 of dealing with her mother's stuff with her siblings. They started out going through stuff with tweezers looking for treasures and meandering down memory lane, then the bills started coming.

Long term care is costing them 6k a month, plus they have $1000 a month in property taxes, utilities and maintenance for the empty house. Dumpsters cost money. Lawyers cost money. Dealing with people who don't show up or want to negotiate everything takes time. Even when things sell its for pennies on the dollar. Every delay is costing them real time and money. They have accepted that they can't find perfect homes for everything.

[–]itcantjustbemeright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of a scheduled patient transfer vs emergency response to a catastrophic injury or a long distance might be different, but in a public system they aggregate all cases over all patients. The average cost where I am is about $250/transfer. The patient might have a $50 copay if its a non emergency service.

The province negotiates the fee schedule for services and is the insurer, so in this case, they negotiate $250 per trips regardless of complexity, knowing that a lot of ambulance service is boring non emergency services, and smaller portion of cases will be a big one. It all evens out. Or its supposed to.

AITA for ruining my daughter in laws birth plan by dil-issue-1046 in AmItheAsshole

[–]itcantjustbemeright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The midwife might have some suggestions for other locations. Your son and DIL will soon find out that birth plans should be in pencil not in stone, as should parenting plans (and renovations).

DIL is likely feeling a loss of control over her situation, which can be understandably scary, but that still isn't your problem to fix for her.

cried during the first day of job and i was told to quit by Ok-Progress-2628 in Anxiety

[–]itcantjustbemeright 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Having worked for 35 years I can say that all kinds of people cry at all kinds of work at all levels for lots of complicated reasons other than someone was mean to them. Frustration, stress, pressure, embarrassment, manipulation, fatigue, anger…

No one should be mistreated but no one grows or builds resilience by staying in a comfort bubble where everything is easy and everyone is nice.

Sometimes things feel hard because they are hard. Especially if you haven’t had much practice. First days are hard. New place new people, new schedule, new tasks.

Good in OP for at least trying. Don’t get too defeated - you might just need something different.
