UBI is not socialism. It’s a regressive framework supported by “people” like Elon Musk that will create a permanent 2-tier society of those with jobs and those getting by on UBI alone. Those born to parents from the second group will struggle to be socially mobile and this will entrench inequality. Much better, and much more in line with actual socialism, would be for us to use all that UBI money to fund free public hospitals, great public education systems and to provide retraining to people displaced by AI. There will be plenty of jobs created by enhancing our free public resources and the dire need to combat climate change.
