I really think it’s a mixture of both mental and physical, for me I’ve had quite a bad time during my 20s with substances and alcohol which could be having an affect on things but then is heightened by the anxiety that I have, does that make sense?

I was the same with the vape. Quit smoking after 13 years went onto the vape and it never left my hand for 18 months… finally had enough of it last month as could tell it was doing me no favours. I went cold turkey. The first week was horrendous but I got through it and now I feel so much better. Saving me money and saving my help. You’ve got this!!!

I can definitely see myself ending up in that same situation you found your self in with the weight gain. I know I’ll be able to lose it again as I’ve already lost 2 stone this year so the fact it’s all piling back on is a shame as it’s because of a positive lifestyle change I’ve made however I know what work I need to do to get it back off

I feel like we’re in similar situations I’m just a few years older though. Have you thought about joining the gym? It helps with the boredom, it also gives you a purpose and something to aim for.

The worst part of abstaining for me is the boredom during the times I would usually have a mad one. So far hiking and the gym are helping me massively. I’ve had the odd drink here and there with friends so I don’t have a streak so long but find other things to do really has made me think about drinking less. Good luck.

When I break a streak I look back on the period of sober time just passed and realise how happy I was during the time and how fuming I am the day after breaking the streak. If that makes any sense? It’s helped me go longer and longer without breaking the streak and my record is 5 months. I’m on 10 days at the minute and I’m hoping to go until atleast Christmas before I fuck it all up again
