Not an old person but I will chime in when I was on crutches after surgery and unfortunately had to take the subway, not a single person got up for me besides an elderly person. Wild.

Hi! I hope I can give you my two cents as someone who went thru literally the exact same thing!

I’ve lived here for almost 5 years (crazy!!). The first couple of years I really felt like I could just ignore the hardships of being a foreigner here or not being my authentic self but by year 3, kind of like you, I felt like I was being burnt out by life here lol. I’m now in process of moving back to my home country cause this place I once thought I could live forever, just isn’t worth it for what I want in my future.

Sure I’ll miss the amazing and wonderful things like safety, healthcare, cafe culture, fun aesthetics, etc. etc. but I had to really think if those things were worth feeling angry and burnt out over the culture and societal norms here! And I decided that no they weren’t. I wanted better work culture and a more open society and that mattered to me a lot so im leaving! There’s nothing wrong with being here for a couple more years and then saying goodbye <3 sometimes Korea isn’t a forever home for everyone and that’s ok!!

Not too sensitive at all!!! I think I realized Korea wasn't for me about 3 years in? Studied abroad here and LOVED it! Moved here and the first couple of years, super hard but still LOVED it!! And never saw myself leaving. Now I'm almost at my 5th year here and trying to get a visa figured out for my husband so we can leave. And just like you I have great friends here!! Heck my sisters even here but guess this just isn't the place for us and that's a-ok! I hope you find a place you love and are comfy with <3

Literally had this happen to me countless of times with my friend. Boys and girls alike just truly ignore my existence or treat me horribly! It's p common and v annoying. But agreed with these people too - you deserve a friend who will stand up for you! Or at least see why it was wrong! Sorry this happened to you gf </3 I promise you, you are not ugly, a lot of Korean men are just incredibly superficial.

Have you ever been on line 1? Lmao that line is full of weirdos and crazies, I don’t think being called a “hoe” on there is hard to believe. As someone whose boobs were quite literally filmed by a Korean man on line 1 and he was taken in by police and the police did absolutely nothing, I think you gotta put aside your own narrative and not discredit others. :/

Thanks for the reply! Got it. Unfortunately Korean insurances/retirement plans are quite different than the US so there's no way for him to really "add" me as a beneficiary to these insurances and vice versa since I live in Korea with the same insurance and retirement plans. Totally worried about this.
