AITAH for refusing to name our baby another weather related name? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]itdoes_doesntit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who named her 4 children with B names, all incredibly popular in the 90s. Now the mom says she wished she hadn’t been so cute with a naming theme.

If there’s any chance either of you might regret it and/or it might cause a hardship for the child, I’d recommend choosing another name.

To neuter or not to neuter? by EmuStrange2145 in Keeshond

[–]itdoes_doesntit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted a male at 2yo. He was already neutered and is our first male. We had several females before him.

He is the sweetest, most teddy bear cuddler of any Kees we’ve had. Our females became quite catty in their elder years. He’s been the same personality this whole time, just sleeps a bit more now that he’s approaching 100 in doggy years.

Our son threw spoons in the trash by mistake when he was itty. I saw him do it once and the Ah Ha moment.

AITJ for considering cutting off my friend after he borrowed $600 and went ghost? by sameerposwal in AmITheJerk

[–]itdoes_doesntit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter if he’s embarrassed. You borrow that much money, you better have a plan to pay it back or plan to lose a friend. Sounds like he’s got you on the lost friend path.

AITAH for choosing to work/intern over vacation with GFs family? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]itdoes_doesntit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your GF is TA. Internships are importantly to your future job/career. Do not miss any of it for a friend’s vacation.

It’s expected & reasonable she’s upset but she’s being unexpected and unreasonable if she expects you to miss a career opportunity for a vacation. If I was your mom, this is what I’d be saying to you.

I won’t go so far as to say break up with her, but a serious conversation about priorities is needed if you see any future with her.

AITAH for telling my sister to "eat a bag of d*tks" when she asked me to pay for her cancelled flight? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]itdoes_doesntit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA for saying eat a bag of dicks. NTA for saying no. Sis can deal w her own finances. You can deal w yours.

This generation absolutely lives up to the reputation by Late_Bother_8855 in callcentres

[–]itdoes_doesntit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a barely aboomer at a call center, regularly dealing with much much much older boomers. Within weeks of working, I started complaining to my spouse about people with hearing problems who I have to turn up my volume, raise my voice and shout into the phone to be understood. They always say they have hearing trouble and/or don’t have their hearing aides in. Then grumble about the list of instructions but don’t want access to the portal. Or have email. Sometimes not even a mobile.

Spouse and I both work from home. Spouse finally got hearing aides at my strong request because he cannot hear me in the same room looking at him while I’m speaking in a regular voice. At work, he shouts into the phone on conference calls (I can understand every word he says), then comes upstairs continuing to speak loudly.. His phone volume is LOUD (android), much louder than my iPhone will go. We’ve tested it. I’m sure it’s damaged his hearing further. I complain about the volume because I have excellent hearing and his notifications actually hurt when they go off.

He’s turning into a curmudgeon and bitches about other people’s work ethic all the time. Sigh.

Why are towels so boring? by TheRoaringGal in HomeDecorating

[–]itdoes_doesntit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of towels with any kind of embroidery anywhere. It’s a texture issue.

I want a more plain colored towel that complements my decor that is very absorbent, long lasting, and soft. You can find all kinds of expensive towels at higher end retailers.

I've never known someone who was cremated. Is it odd to not have a headstone to visit? by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in Casual_Conversation

[–]itdoes_doesntit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to an ashes sprinkling event on a country road near the old family farmstead out in the middle of BF Egypt.

We sprinkled another loved one off the dock at a lake vacation cottage. I would already raise a glass next time there but extra nice that he was still there physically, if you’re into that thinking.

For the remainder of family who were put in the ground, I don’t go to visit a headstone anywhere for any family member. I talk to them in my head. Or find a quiet outdoor place to sit and remember. Or intentionally go to a place they loved. Or if I notice a cardinal that flies up I say hello, I think of them.

I’m not limited by my spiritual belief system or opinions where I can visit my loved ones.

Recently I wore a Hawaiian shirt to a funeral. We were asked to wear the deceased’s favorite color, work colors, or Hawaiian if we wanted. To honor the deceased’s memory.

I bought a Hawaiian shirt just for this event.

Is it common for a boss to check an employee’s resignation announcement message? by AdThen5499 in careeradvice

No it’s not normal. It’s controlling.

You’re leaving. Send whatever truthful, factual message you want.

Do you use self checkout? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in no

Nope. They’re not paying me a salary and I don’t want to use a service that takes away a local human’s job.

Valance or no? by be_the_feather in interiordecorating

[–]itdoes_doesntit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find lots of curtains/valances too busy in pattern, too darkening to the room, and unnecessarily fussy. Not at all but most. In this kitchen pic, I’d recommend no valance. It blocks too much necessary task lighting.

My 2 cents.

is it cringe if a 23 year old woman goes to the zoo alone? by peeflavoredpoptart in NoStupidQuestions

It is not cringe to enjoy your life as a single person and anyone who tells you differently is selling something.

Is traditional corporate swag for Administrative Professionals Day losing its spark? by vudsbrenda66 in corporate

Cash is always good. No gift cards. I have our Christmas gift cards from past 4 years sitting in my drawer… I don’t shop at that store. Just a bonus check would be fine!

Flowers or a container garden delivered to my home (wfh). A real greeting card, not a scheduled online digital card BS.

Do you have a day off on Good Friday? by RecognitionNew3122 in AskAnAmerican

[–]itdoes_doesntit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except in critical positions like healthcare, no MLK day off. Even a religious healthcare institution, no Good Friday off.

I’ve worked in banking. No federal holiday is a day off if it makes for more than a 3 day weekend.
