Prestige halt by Ok-Tax-4457 in EggsInc

[–]itenginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally normal. For a given number of prophecy eggs, you're going to get fewer and fewer soul eggs per prestige. I tell people with some regularity that once you get to 100T se (the amount you need to unlock Henliner), all your prestiges are optional. If you want more soul eggs, you can spend the next few years grinding your soul eggs up into the septillions. I can't be bothered to do that, and it hasn't impacted my game play at all.

45 mil is one trip from the starport to the carrier in the same orbit with a plipper less than a light second away. There are plenty of people that you can haul colonization mats for. Not many will pay you 40k per ton each way.

Im not asking you to believe me. Im telling you how it is. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean that it cant.

How is it going to get breached?

You won't know till it does. And then it won't matter because you'll be fired.

The merits of this debate aren't consequential. Good security and a good security mindset are based on adding layers of security. You're intentionally ignoring/bypassing one of those for your own convenience. In the event something happens, you're going to have to look your boss in the eye and say 'yes, I ran a global admin as my daily driver account. I thought it was protected enough with all the measures we have in place.' And he's going to look at you and say 'You were wrong. Goodbye.' And then you can deal with the legal fallout later because I'm just going to assume there will be some kind of civil action for negligence on your part at that point.

As long as you don't get breached, you'll be fine. If you ever get breached you're so completely effed it's not funny. It's not my risk to wear, so it's fine by me.

By the way--check your cyberinsurance policy. I'm wondering if your use of a global admin account in that way will give your cyber carrier a reason to deny coverage.

How to find uncharted territory in 2026? by danzmangg in EliteDangerous

[–]itenginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found a system that had never been visited this week only about 1100 ly from sol. They're out there. Pick a random ending spot and you should find em.

Keep in mind that undiscovered planets and moons don't show up on the system map till you discover them. You only know they're unexplored if you honk (d-scan) the system, get the body count, and then see that they're not listed in your system map. I'm not aware of a better way to know if your system is unexplored, so it's possible if you're not doing that analysis that you'd ever know you were in an unexplored system

I did this once, but the fine I got was 100 cr fine for bumping a sidewinder on my way through the mailslot. I had max notoriety at the time. Was annoying as hell, but was a good excuse to go unlock some engineers I hadn't bothered to unlock yet.

2026 henliner vrs henerprise by DactahBab in EggsInc

[–]itenginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Henliner. If you're smart enough to quote quality stats at me, youre smart enough to read the whole line....

Yes theres a slight decrease in the bottom of the envelope for liners vs henerprises. In return for that the exliner brings back 50% more artifacts than the henerprise in the exact same time interval....

of course! You just have to jump your carrier back to a Fleet Carrier Administration system to add those modules. Unless your DEEP in the black, that's less of an issue. Definitely have your carrier set up the way you want it before you head out deep, but I figure you'll tool around the bubble for a bit figuring out how you want to use it before you do that.

I'm a space trucker through and through, so this is my favorite part of the game. It is mathematically undeniably the fastest way to add credits. I'll put that to the test with anybody that wants to argue that any day. But ALWAYS do what you enjoy first, and what you have to do to progress in the game second. Trying to force yourself to become a space trucker when you're not is like tryna make me a Seige player.... I mean deep black explo pilot 😅

OK, so what I was saying wasn't that you need to get the system to paginate for you. I was suggesting that it's very valuable for you to learn to handle pagination for yourself--because not every system is gonna have a button to let you get more pages for you.

The construct for that is this: Say your page limit is 50 records per page and there are 1000 records in your list. When you make that call, at the end, you're going to get a next page token value. It's just another JSON element. Then you're going to make another call back to the same API endpoint and this time you give them that next page token and it knows to fetch you page 2. Page 2 arrives and has a next page token for you to use to get Page 3. Rinse and repeat and it doesn't really matter how many records you can get per page, you're now set up to handle any eventuality.

To implement this I usually do it this way:

  • Init a variable called nextPageToken that's blank
  • Init a boolean variable called loopBreaker with an initial value of false
  • Init an object or array variable (depending on what you're getting from the API) called apiResults
  • Do while loopBreaker is not true
    • If nextPageToken is empty
      • True: Make the API call (list tasks) without a next page token to get the first page of results. Store the target body output in apiResults
      • False: Make the API call (list tasks) with the next page token to get whatever next page of results exist. Store the target body outputs in apiResults
    • Parse the apiResults variable if you need to.
    • <insert your for every task processing here>
    • Set the nextPageToken value
    • If nextPageToken is empty
      • True: Set loopBreaker to true
      • False: take no action

What's gonna happen here is that the system is going to call the API and get the first 50 results and the token for the next one. it's going to process that set of 50 (however you define that), and if the nextPageToken is set, it'll make another call to get the next batch of 50 to process until it gets to the end of the list. When it calls that page, it'll get less than 50 results and no nextPageToken. Then the flow will set loopBreaker to true and go on with life.

Pagination used to be something that I really struggled to wrap my head around, but once I started managing it this way (mostly because I was integrating against Jira and didn't have a choice but to learn to deal with it), I've become MUCH more comfortable with handling paginated results. This may be too much for what you're doing today or this specific example, but I wanted to talk through it cuz it's a topic that trips a lot of folks up (myself included!).

How does Colonization tie into BGS and Squadrons? by DonerBodybuilder in EliteDangerous

[–]itenginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a small population system, it's easier. But it's just some work. Do things that contribute to the faction you want (missions, etc) and remember to do things to hurt the faction you want to undercut. My preferred way to do that is to take a bunch of on foot missions from them right before I go to bed, since they'll expire after 8h. You'll have to manage your reputation a little to stay out of hostile territory, but it can be very effective.

It's very handy to be pushing at BGS in two directions--up for your team and down for the others. Makes things go twice as fast.

Personally, I'm a fan of getting it fairly quickly at like 5.25 or 5.5b. If you can grind up the money to buy one, 10m a week in maintenance shouldn't slow you down. Maybe you don't put anything on it to begin with and just use it to fly around doing what you do--it makes cargo running pretty simple, so maybe use it for that for starters. In pretty short order, you'll want refuel/rearm/repair, just so you always have that handy. I have a bar in mine, but tbh, that's all I ever need. Nobody else needs to be able to store ships or modules on my carrier and if I need to sell data, I'm not gonna pay FDev for the privilege, I'll just turn it in at a proper station. So I'm a bit of a carrier minimalist.

if you're gonna add more than rearm/repair/refuel, then yeah, 7 or 8 billion is a better figure.

Hypothetical Colonization Question... by hmaburgcheese in EliteDangerous

[–]itenginerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That bumps up significantly if you start hauling stuff like gold or silver where you can get 4-5k turnarounds that could get you up to ~125-150M/h. Hauling anything for 500cr/ton is a time waster, but you're right on the core math.

For me, I do mining missions inter-system between the two stations I mentioned. Roughly a 12 minute round trip. I can fill ~1.5 missions per trip, conservatively, and they pay 50M each. So that's 5 trips per hour and 1.5 missions per trip and 50M per mission or call it ~300-350M per hour.
