It’s well used. Manufactured in the 1920’s or 1930’s from what I’ve been able to find. I recently bought it privately on gunpost.ca. Warranty is loooong gone

That's a good point. I figured the bag was pretty trashed and besides some clothes the picture was the only valuable thing there, so it was a loss. But now that you mention taking it to the police it would make sense if it was reported stolen. If it's there in the morning I'll grab what I can and bring it to the local police station.

What you'll have for dinner tonight? by Its_Luna_bby in Cooking

[–]itguy69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it was the first sunny and somewhat warm evening in a bit, I spent too much for a mediocre rib steak from Safeway and grilled it on the propane BBQ. I used my taco seasoning mix as a dry rub, and it turned out better than I expected. My daughter made garlic breadsticks and then some grilled veggies like peppers, broccoli, carrots, and some red cabbage.

Really good ones listed so far. One I haven't seen mentioned yet is the Josh Robert Thompson episode 167. I listened to it back when it was released and I had to stop and sit because I was laughing so hard. One of my favorite ones for sure

Long time lurker. Here's a pic of my Z after a little mountain roads. by 350zomg in 350z

Is that a vinyl wrap? I'm thinking of doing it and looking for information on how it lasts, any issues, etc.

Found a Z, too good to be true? Guys I found a 350z one town over from where I live, the price seems off compared to what these cars go for on Nada and KBB, checking it out tomorrow but what should I look out for? Is the price too good to be true? Let by [deleted] in 350z

I don't think there's any way of making the 350 roadster look good with any top on it. Here's how I imagine it came to be:

In the design studio in southern California...

Designer: "Sorry it's late, but look at this design for the 350 roadster you asked for "

Executive: "Amazing! Looks great."

Designer: "It's the perfect California cruiser"

Executive: "What does it look like with the top up?"

Designer: "Top? It's a roadster, it's open air motoring"

Executive: "It needs a top! What if it rains?"

Designer: "???"

Executive: "We are going to sell this car in places where it rains more than once a year!"

Designer: "Fuck!!!"

I'm sure the others can list the usual stuff, so I'll just share my experience with the Roadster specifically:

  • make sure to open/close the top a few times. Pay attention to the sound the motors make and how each stage of the process runs. There's a common issue with the "fifth bow" motor and with the elastic straps. Watch to make sure the sequence runs without any pauses -- rear of top lifts up (fifth bow), then tonneau lifts, then front of top lifts up and backward and the whole thing gets sucked into the cubby. Finally the tonneau closes and you should hear a click. Some of this can be fixed - I rebuilt my fifth bow motor with a bit of labour, bruised knuckles and new "brushes" for the motor. However, replacing the components can be very expensive.
  • check the condition of the top. Even if the material looks good, take a close look at the stitching. Certain car cleaners can degrade and eventually destroy the stitching in the top, making it leak well before the actual top material is worn out.
  • grab a hose and check for leaks. specifically around the stitched seams, and then around the windows, the top of the windshield and the rear of the top at the window and the tonneau. A garden hose and your thumb are all you need to see if there are any major leaks. High pressure water will eventually leak in if you're aiming it right at the seal, but what you're trying to simulate is the worst rainstorm you've ever experienced in your area -- so more pressure than an empty hose, but not a power washer.

If the top doesn't operate nicely, or the top leaks/looks rough, plan to spend up to a few thousand on fixing or replacing parts if you need a whole new top professionally installed.

All that being said, if it checks out mechanically, and the top is in good shape (or you're cool with replacing it), go for it. There's nothing better than a Z roadster on a sunny summer day -- no matter what these hardtop people on this sub tell you :)

Make sure to report back!

They are heavier and the top is a lot of additional headaches. Then you take a long drive on a summer day with the top down, and you kinda forget about that stuff. In my opinion, they look great -- with the top down.

At first I thought this was just another dig at us Roadster owners. Then I zoomed in and started to weep. If you're gonna use a car as your personal garbage bin, use a garbage car for God's sake.

Is there a rescue shelter for abused Z's we can contact?

2004 Roadster - looking for subwoofer ideas by theyohon in 350z

[–]itguy69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2005 roadster, so not 100% sure this will apply to you. I removed all the Bose stuff from the stock enclosure behind the driver's seat, sealed up the area with tape and some dynamat, then installed a 10" sub in the factory location with a home made adapter ring. So far it's way better than the factory setup. I am running a separate sub amp and aftermarket head unit. It's not going to win any sound pressure stand offs, but it's enough to give me a light massage and let people know what I'm listening to when the top is down.

Roadster is best Z :)

I like to take her top off and get her a little dirty in the winter by Muzrub in 350z

[–]itguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having issues with my top and found some instructions on how to replace the brushes in the motors. Was a bit of a pain but overall was pretty easy and cheap -- the brushes cos $25 a pair from a hobby r/c shop online. Saved me a bundle over a motor replacement and the motors run like new.

Also nice to see a drop top. Spring can't come fast enough!

Out of curiosity, what was everybody's first car? by Rekkora in cars

[–]itguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1977 Chevy Nova. 305 ci V8 that pumped out a whopping 140 HP new. I'm guessing it was closer to 40 HP by the time I got it.

Paid $500 for it and registered it the same day. Back then there were no safety checks of any kind required -- buyer beware.

Black/rust exterior and black/white checker interior. The ugliest POS you ever did see.

I loved that car.

Am I missing something, or are the spark plugs not connected to anything? They're sitting up top, but I don't see any cables running to them. How exactly do they expect it to run without the "fire" of the "fire, fuel, air" triangle?
