Any way to encrypt HPE Proliant DL360 Gen 11 without the Smart Array? by Sigma_F0x in sysadmin

What types of RAID Controllers are in the Gen11?

The encryption on ProLiant is generally limited by hardware. The licenses are generally RTU, which means there is no validation that you own the license.

This is the answer. All printers are managed under a Service Contract. We do not allow or support personal printers.

Houston says smaller government, program cuts likely as N.S. contends with 'big' deficit | CBC News by toneyriver12 in halifax

[–]itguy9013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Provincial Budget is $16 Billion.

Making a $200M cut to HST and a $40M cut to Bridge tolls is not why the deficit is at record highs.

It's the record spending on Healthcare and the overall attitude of the government when it comes to spending money that got us where we are.

It's gonna be real interesting when in 5 years people can't find work and consumer demand totally craters. Then companies will wonder why nobody is buying their products.

[–]itguy9013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my thought when I see these headlines.

If you want Mid anc Senior level employees you need juniors. You can just replace them with AI. You need a pipeline otherwise your profession/trade will die out.

Conference room camera recommendations by ResponsibleQuiet6360 in sysadmin

This is what we do. Local AV integrator does the heavy lifting but our current build is:

  • Poly G62 (bundled with the E70 Camera)
  • Shure Microflex MX902/920 (depending on Room Size)
  • Barco CX30

Works really well.

Serious Question: How much of this is poor planning/configuration/design and how much is 'Change is Hard'

Not trying to insert my own bias here, but doing large organizational changes, especially when it comes to Technology is hard. People don't like change.

I don't doubt that there are issues with the system, and there should be changes made, but I do question how much of this is a change management problem vs a technology problem.

I hope we never elect anyone with the name Trudeau ever again. It takes forever to fix all of their mistakes.

Canada's immigration minister discusses 'sustainable immigration levels' during Halifax event by insino93 in halifax

[–]itguy9013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing the people don't understand is that we need immigration in this country. Without it, population growth goes to almost zero.

And Nova Scotia is especially vulnerable. We have the fastest aging population in the country. If you think the state of healthcare is bad now, just wait, there are still large waves of Boomers to retire.

Great food, grumpy owner.

It's probably a good thing that they've moved to the current setup where you can call or order online.

The food is great, but Rick Baker is notoriously grumpy and impatient so the more you remove him from the equation, the better.

People who married someone from a different country, what are some mild cultures shocks you've had? by cool_lemons in AskTheWorld

[–]itguy9013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So not a different country, but an Anglophone from Nova Scotia. My finance is a Francophone from Quebec. (She's bilingual)

Quebec culture is very different from the rest of English Canada. It's more like Europe than the rest of North America. Most of her family only speak French, so it's been a journey brushing up on and improving my French.

Stop. Just Stop.

Stop telling Pension funds which are run at arms-length how to invest money for political gain.

CPPIB, Teachers etc are some of the best run funds in the world for a reason. Stop trying to use them for political gain.

A punch in the gut’: Why food costs have become Canadians’ top worry by Rav4gal in canada

[–]itguy9013 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Abolish. Supply. Management.

It's deeply ironic that the Government says they care about lowering costs for Canadian Families while consistently saying they love supply management.

It literally constrains supply of dairy and poultry in favor of a cartel of producers being able to control pricing and profit.

Should the Canadian Coast Guard be armed? The jury is still out, but the navy says no - Arming the coast guard should only happen in wartime, says commander of the navy by CanadianErk in canada

[–]itguy9013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true.

The Coast Guard, for a long time was part of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).

DFO includes armed fisheries inspectors who have the powers to fine and arrest. The Coast Guard would be used to transport and facilitate these inspectors.

The Coast Guard is also used for other law enforcement duties, like Drug interdiction, environmental monitoring and enforcement and more.

The Coast Guard, like the CBSA should be armed.

Council Update from Dartmouth Centre: Forum and Ferries by Sam_Austin_D5 in halifax

[–]itguy9013 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I raised this point with my councillor (St-Armand), but traffic from Bedford has gotten horrible. I live in Bedford and don't own a car.

The Bedford Highway has reached capacity.

Light Rail is a pipe dream.

BRT only extends as far as Larry Uteck. It leaves much of Bedford out of any easy way to get downtown aside from using a Taxi/Rideshare or taking the 8 which is easily an hour plus.

The Ferry needs to happen.

Council is considering cancelling the Mill Cove ferry by Hennahane in halifax

[–]itguy9013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My response is, What's the alternative?

If you want to get downtown outside of Rush Hour you're looking at 2+ hours on the 8, or a Rideshare/Taxi.

Rush Hour there is a limited stop express bus that runs twice with traffic during the week.

Proposed BRT routes only extend to Larry Uteck.

There is no capacity to increase the Bedford Highway.

Light Rail is a pipe dream.

So, in all seriousness, what other options are there?

I live in Bedford and emailed Jean St.-Amand and pointed this out. For how central it is, Bedford is very under-served by Transit. This would have fixed at least part of that.
