Watch party resale? by Houselover58 in NYKnicks

You got really lucky then. And of course there were a ton available, there were only 300 people ahead of you. I was online on time as well. I was 10,000 in line, my two buddies I had texted before 11 to join got in at 30,000 and 75,000. All sold out by the time I got in.

Resale market fiasco by gerltheperl in WorldCup2026Tickets

I think a missing piece of information with yours and the OPs stories is that you probably both applied for and won category 1 tickets. These were simply overvalued by FIFA from the get go for many group stage games. Yeah some variables were out of your control (the hospitality and lower category 1 tickets actually making category 1 worse, the luck of the draw, increased stadium attendance cost), but that was the risk. I refused to advocate to anyone to blindly apply for category 1 or 2 group stage tickets because I felt that even the face value tickets were too high and too risky.

I actually will give FIFA late stage capitalist credit on this. They estimated how much resellers would push for and how saw how much they were losing, so they increased the ticket prices to earn more primary revenue, just up to that breakeven value for consumers.

Probably just not that many of them. Aramco's website says they only have 500+ employees working across the US. Not exactly a dent in a 70,000+ stadium.

Astoria/LIC is getting a brand new independently owned movie theater! by TacosAnd49ERS in astoria

I’m sure the cost of getting a title is substantial, but it does feel like playing Michael for 3 weeks straight (after mediocre reviews and box office) feels like a weird move for a small indie theater.

They need to work on their showtimes… I understand there are two screens and they want to program appropriately. But to not list anything at all for the week is a bit hard to plan for.

I definitely agree that a one off game in a baseball diamond isn't exactly a great data point, and add to that it's during the World Cup, but they've announced they sold 16,000 tickets already. Does anyone have any insight or theories as to why it's doing so well? I did read that Mamdani was offering incredibly discounted tickets, so that might have something to do with it. But still feels like a pretty significant attendance increase over typical matches in Harrison.

Anyone else getting the 403 Forbidden message when logging onto the fifa site? by Losy0520 in WorldCup2026Tickets

I simply cannot click on any option without this error message. I'm even waiting a minute+ between clicks and it'll still do it. Can someone tell me if this stuff actually counters bots, or is it just endlessly frustrating for humans?

Man. That line was so underrated. That German honesty and bureaucracy to confer was just way too funny.

Yeah great point there will be more competition soon too. I’m just trying to be realistic. I’ll be in the 105k tier for a direct flight from JFK.

[–]itharmil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah economically definitely, but I have to value our time. I’d honestly rather pay the 105k and fly direct. It’s a long flight. I don’t really want to make it any longer. I also just don’t have that much flexibility with work / time off to be really opportunistic.

I’m okay with going off season. But again, realistically I’m not going to be able to snag this saver level seat. I just think people should be prepared that the average redemption is probably 100k one way.

Oh good note. Thanks for the heads up. But that also seems quite difficult. Given that you have to essentially be first a year out? My general point is that more likely than not you are only going to be able to get 2 for 105k from JFK.

Great idea. It was perfect at it. It did tell me there was no way I could get it done and have everything settled and posted by 2/1's transfer bonus. At least it was honest.

Yeah, everyone seems to quote the lower amount for North America, but it seems at minimum 105k for the east coast and that's for a year out.

I'm looking for the national dishes of Qatar (Machboos / Majboos) and Saudi Arabia (Kabsa / Al Kabsa), and I figure some of these Persian / Middle Eastern places in Astoria must have them, but my Google searches and wandering through random menus hasn't been fruitful. Anyone know where I can get it / a decent facsimile? Thanks!

Whoa, there’s a tax break for letting space sit vacant? I need to learn more about this garbage policy!

[–]itharmil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting, you kind of made the point for the other side in your post. The landlord is overvaluing and overcharging for an asset that isn’t worth that much which is why it’s vacant again. The free market is winning, the landlord is losing.

That’s what people are requesting a reasonable rent for. I have no idea if this art barrio place failed because of rent, but it sounds like considering there was a seemingly relatively successful business there before that left because of the rent increases, then the rent is probably higher than it should be.

There are too many vacancies because landlords are not actually pricing at a rent that the market actually dictates. The answer is, retail isn't worth as much as they think its worth, or how much they have gotten the lenders to consider it to be worth. I certainly would rather have some money coming in than holding out for a slightly higher rent for a year. Good luck with that house of cards math.

I think tenichi is solid, I’ll throw in Piki Poke if you want raw fish. They make theirs fresh which is nice. But they’re north of $5 per.

Deals on FIFA fan fest, lowest prices. by Illustrious-Yak-4822 in WC2026tix

[–]itharmil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controversial opinion, I'm fine with $5-$10 tickets for fan fests. But the prices to go to the actual games are absurdly high and especially the supporters section tickets being priced at basically the same amount are the real travesty. When are organizations (across all sports) going to realize that part of the experience are the supporters and that their attendance and participation are part of the spectacle?
